Description
Based in the heart of the English Lake District, brewers of bold, innovative beers since 2002, our beer range is eclectic and includes thirst quenching session beers, big hopped pale ales, deep dark stouts and sours. With a range of core beers, available in Cask, Keg, Bottle and Can.
At Hawkshead Brewery we make the sort of beer we like to drink - distinctive, full of flavour, handmade, and perfectly crafted. We are small enough to know most of our customers, not to care about the mass market, be able to brew lots of different beers, experiment and innovate. We are big enough to employ a team of five brewers, make around 140 barrels (23,000 litres) of beer a week, deliver direct throughout The North, and our Tap at our Staveley site is open every day.
In about 2017, a controlling interest in the company was taken by Liverpool-based Halewood Wines & Spirits, and this may result in further expansion.

Cask @ JDW Inverness
Straw colour, clear, thin white head, quite good lacing. Aroma of sweet light citrus fruits, light grapefruit, sweet pale malt. Taste of bitter citrus grapefruit, light palate sweet malts, most of the flavour in the finish. Palate - soft carb, light body, bit mouth puckering, some sour citrus, texture slightly viscous. Finish as main flavour but much more citrus bitterness, very slight biscuit. linger a bit then clears.
Ovreall - A really good beer for 3.5% with a lot of flavour at that abv.

Cask at the Willow Walk (JDW), Victoria. Pale amber with a loose white head; fresh lemon aroma; crisp grapefruit flavour with a little sweetness, and a medium weight grainy body; the finish is lively with lemony citrus and a prolonged ending. Rather good.

Clear black colour, no head. Aroma of plum, vanilla, malts, medlar and candy. Nice and interesting. Flavour light malty, light sweet, caramel, light dark fruits. Rather thin. Finish vanilla and ripened fruits (reminding of overripe plums and medlars). Interesting, but a bit thin bodied.

Cask @ ACBF 2012: clear, slightly dark orange with a white head, smell reminds me a bit of nelson sauvignon, herbal & floral hops as well, taste is bitter, herbal, floral hops but also some white grapes & melon, slight white berries, slightly fizzy, touch watery cask thingy but quite nice anyway, pint-able
