tons of rye. A bit sweet to start but leads into dry, austere notes. Not super balanced but nice

Taster showing neon yellow and half a finger of clean white foam. The nose shows a farmhouse background with a sweet malt forwardness. The palate is light bodied and moderately carbonated. A lot of farmhouse, barnyard flavors.

Bottle from Le petit L’ouest. Pours a clear gold with a medium-sized head that dissipates fairly quickly but leaves a small rim around the edge of the glass. Nice saison nose with some lemon, pepper and pear on the nose. Medium to light body with average carbonation. Peppery flavor but as it warms it gets quite sweet. A little too sweet for me in a saison. Pepper on the finish which I can’t tell if the pepper is from the rye or the yeast. Not bad I guess. --- Beer merged from original tick of Saison de Seigle (Rye Saison) on 13 Aug 2015 at 23:58 - Score: 6

very dark brown. Lots of roasted malts with a touch of citrus. Medium full body with lots of roasted malt, but lacks the hoppiness of an IBA. Overall pretty enjoyable

Bottle from Asahiya. Pouring a caramel amber with a foamy light beige head. The nose is mildly fruity, while the taste is the same with a decent amount of sweet malts. I found it to be a good though unmemorable example of a Steam Beer. I will note though this bottle was near it’s expiry date so not the freshest.

On tap at Watering Hole (Ariel Pink’s favorite beer that night apparently). Served in a shaker pint. Toasted coconut and vanilla on the nose with a nice roasted marshmallow aroma as well. Toasted malt flavor with the same aromas slightly muted. Slightly creamy mouthfeel that ends kind of watery. Slightly sour and mostly dry finish. --- Beer merged from original tick of Coconut Porter on 18 Sep 2016 at 16:00

Handpump at Q-Brick. Muddy orange-brown with a fine head. Big hop aroma, pine, grass, caramel. A bit old school. Sweet fruit flavor, orange, with pine, malt that isn’t overly sweet, very bitter and somewhat English-feeling. Smooth and rich and bready. Well done, avoiding the syrupy sweetness of so many in this style.

Tap at Q-brick. Cloudy, amber brown, bubbly lace. Big malty nose, caramel and fudge. Big and chewy malt flavor, sweet, chewy malts, chocolate fudge, a bit of smoke, caramel. Well done. Big, thick body--almost there. Spot on. The best in this style I have had in a long while.
