Description
Hardywood officially began its mission to brew with purpose in late 2011 as one of only two craft breweries in the city of Richmond. Our original brewhouse and taproom was a vacant warehouse discovered in a long-forgotten neighborhood known nearly a century prior as Richmond’s German Brewing District. Hardywood has been drawing new life to this forgotten area one draft pour at a time. We now operate a 20-barrel brewhouse and taproom in the original location, as well as a 60-barrel brewhouse and destination brewery in the West Creek area of Richmond, right on the border of Goochland County.
Today, Hardywood continues to develop and deliver on its mission with a sharp focus on brewing quality, sourcing local, environmental stewardship, community engagement, and giving back.

12 oz. can courtesy of Adam Jackson. Golden color with a thin cap of white head. Nose is nice. Grassy and citrus hops. Flavor has bread dough malts, fresh wet hops and floral notes with just a kiss of pine. This taste is lightly sweet malt with a crisp bitterness showing the citrus and pine again after the sip. This is a really nice pale ale. This is a great 1st impression of this brewery for me.

Free bomber courtesy of RABinVA. Thanks Ryan! Pull this out to celebrate my 900th Virginia rating! Pretty sure I’ve never had a blackberry milk stout before, so this should be interesting. Pours a clear blackberry color with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of mild berries, chocolate, toffee, wood, vanilla. The taste is almost a bit sour. Bright, tart berries, wood, citrus, toffee, booze. Medium bodied. I might like a little more stout character, but overall this is very nice.

Draft at Capital Ale House - Innsbrook. Poured a hazy yellow-orange color with a small off-white head. Aroma was a touch spicy, with notes of light hops, sweet malt character. Flavor was nice and spicy, with some sweet dried fruit notes, touch of yeast in the finish. Enjoyable.
