Description
Founded in 1784 by Jean Baptiste De Bruin and still a family brewery to this day; known as Brouwerij Schelfaut until 1919, when the name was changed to Brouwerij Bios by Paul Van Steenberge, who became the head of the operation in 1922. Currently operated by his great-grandson Jef Versele (since 1998). Underwent many technical upgrades and expansions since then, most notably in 2017 when new buildings were installed and production capacity was significantly increased.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is sweetish malt, yeast, sweet ripe fruits, mild citrus, spicy notes with coriander, sugary, bit boozy, touch of marzipan. Flavour is sugary sweet and light bitter with a little alcohol. Body is medium. A bit too boozy and sweet to be a good Tripel in my book.

Bottle from a local department store. Aroma is lots of sweet ripe fruits, malt, sweet stone fruits such as peach and apricot, some spicy yeasty and floral notes, candied fruits. Flavour is fairly sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. Better than I expected from looking at that label art, which is pure pain. Bit heavy on the sweetness for my taste, but not bad.

Aroma of malts, yeast, fruits, some spices. Flavour is very yeasty, some fruity sweetness. Lively carbonation. Very nice and drinkable Blonde.

Bottle from a local supermarket. Aroma is grainy malt, wet cardboard, dusty with buttery notes. Flavour is sweetish with a light bitterness in the finish. Body is medium. Not a nice Pilsener with its dusty buttery aroma.

Bottle from a local supermarket. Aroma is wheaty with sugary notes, yeast, spices, sweetish malt, bready notes, citrus. Flavour is above medium sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. A clumsy sweetish Wit that lacks the refreshing character of the style.

Bottle from a local supermarket. Aroma is sweet malt, yeast, sugar, spicy notes, ripe fruits with some banana. Flavour is sugary sweet and lighly bitter. Body is medium. Overtly sweetish and dull Belgian Ale, drinkable but lacking depth.

From tap at Speciaalbier Café De Markies, Leeuwarden. Sweet with an aroma of subtle oak, sweet caramel malt, toffee, likeur, alcohol, pear and overripe apple. Sweet flavour with a sticky mouthfeel. Body is medium to full. Okay-ish, expected more, way too sticky and heavy on the caramel toffee with the kind of ripe fruits I don't particularly care for. Barrel is too subtle.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is floral and a bit grassy with a soapy element, spicy yeast, grainy malt, bit chemical. Flavour is medium sweet with an above moderate bitterness. Body is medium but falls a bit short. Which pretty much sums up this below average Belgian Blond.

From bottle at Bier XXL, Steenwijk. Like a Quadruple with more roast, chocolate, yeast, caramel, picking up spicy notes. Sweet flavour with some roasty bitterness, toffee, very Belgian 'Stout', in between Quadruple and Stout, above medium body. Nice.
