Description
Founded in 1784 by Jean Baptiste De Bruin and still a family brewery to this day; known as Brouwerij Schelfaut until 1919, when the name was changed to Brouwerij Bios by Paul Van Steenberge, who became the head of the operation in 1922. Currently operated by his great-grandson Jef Versele (since 1998). Underwent many technical upgrades and expansions since then, most notably in 2017 when new buildings were installed and production capacity was significantly increased.

This beer pours a pale orange colour with a creamy white head. Slight scent of vineger with a real doughy scent. Alcohol on the nose is warm. A little orange citrus with a malty pepperish bite. First sip...Bold flavour of a mix between spices and sour milk. The finish was warm and very alcoholic with a bitter/sour flavour. Palate was medium creamy texture with a real doughy / yeasty flavour.

Light amber color. Light aroma, corky (it is a corked Magnum bottle). Very dry mouthfeel, quite poor.

Hmmm...not that different from the Piraat I just sampled. This time, however, the body pours dark orange-brown, with a thin off-white head. Caramel and floral hops in the nose. The flavor is very sweet and somewhat cloying, with caramel dominant. I'm not finding much else here to comment on. Alcohol is noticeable but not overbearing. A fairly boring Belgian and not one I would purchase again. Sugar doo-do-doo-do-doo-do...

Pours somewhat cloudy yellow-orange with a medium off-white head. Crackers and grapes in the aroma. Flavor is very yeasty with tangy, over-the-top sweetness, crackers, white grapes, pineapple juice, and alcohol. Earthy hops round out the rather cloying body. Unique but ultimately not satisfying.

This ale pours a beep red with a nice frothy head. Strong sugary yeast scents to this one. Almost a strong baked beans scent from the yeast. Alcohol, toffee notes are strong to the nose. First taste was sweet, maple/brown sugar sweet with good carbonation and a alcohol warming effect. The taste almost reminded me of a ripe fig with a tiny bit of chocolate. The finish had a very strong yeast flavour to it. Definitely a thick beer. The palate had a lingering alcohol warmth to it with a sugary malt taste. I guess I'm just not a huge "yeasty" beer guy but this was not undrinkable.

Cloudy blond color. Quite nice fruitness, not cloying, not artificial… Simple but pleasant.

A hazy orange beer with a small disappearing head. The aroma is sweet and dominated by peach. The flavor is very sweet and a combination of wheat and peach runs thru the mouth. Definatly the best of the three Brussel's fruit beers I've tried.
