Description
Founded in 1784 by Jean Baptiste De Bruin and still a family brewery to this day; known as Brouwerij Schelfaut until 1919, when the name was changed to Brouwerij Bios by Paul Van Steenberge, who became the head of the operation in 1922. Currently operated by his great-grandson Jef Versele (since 1998). Underwent many technical upgrades and expansions since then, most notably in 2017 when new buildings were installed and production capacity was significantly increased.

Orange color, slightly hazy. Fruity aroma, hoppy aroma. Hoppy sweet taste, with a hint of sourness, strawberry, cherry and yeast. I couldn't agree more with bierkoning i guess...

Golden coloured with creamy head. Fruity (apple) nose with a hint of herbs. Full bodied, malty and grainy. Sweet. Rich, but short flavour followed by a fruity finish.

On the positive side, the yeast character is strong, spicy; on the ther side, it's a tad sweeter than I'd like tonight (hot evening in Italy); it also has floral and fruity esters. Very good

Hazy honey colour. Aroma of vanilla, honey. Mellow flavour, cane sugar, with a hint of honey and vanilla, no bitterness, and just a bit of warming alcohol. Interesting evolution.

Hazy golden color; short head retention. Mature malt aroma, lightly oxidised, honeish; it reminds me of some Sherry, showing some sign of age, but not extreme. Surprisingly, it still has a good body structure, enough sugars; sweet malt flavor; strong bitterness; there is a pleasant alcohol perception, not too high (as it may otherwise happen with old beers). I'm quite surprised to note that this beer aged well.

Golden colour, thin collar, nice perlage. Malt, alcohol in the nose, not outstanding; it gets more interesting when warmer: ananas and other fruits. Really strong flavour, of malt and hop, the alcohol remains surprisingly hidden; in waves it's alternatevely rather sweet or really bitter.

Iron aroma indeed, not real good. Copper color. Sour cherry taste. It's actually a Flanders Red Ale i guess, but this one is not pretty good.

This tastes the same as the one brewed by Miller or Celis or whatever. Bad rotten smell, burnt caramel could be. Looks very good, thick lasting head, orange-red color. Taste is somewhat sweet, bit malty maybe. Doesn't taste like a bock actually.

Supposed to be a blonde beer. But with its cloudy orange color, and sweet spicy aroma, it's more like a triple.

I've always been wondering what this beer tasted like. It's not the fishy taste i expected. Looks pretty good, cloudy orange-brown color. Bit malty aroma and taste. Quite ok.

Sweet triple. Not as spicy as i prefer them to be. So overall a decent triple, but nothing special.

[AKA: Maerlant Damse Tripel] Golden colour, beautiful creamy head, maintained by a vigorous perlage (how many beers still have a collar of foam after 1 hour?). Winy, sour aroma in the beginning; velvety malt later. Powerful body, pretty high alcohol, malty, a bit sweet in the front, strong bitterness at the end, introducing to a good strong aromatic and long palate. Very linear, very good.
