Description
Founded in 1784 by Jean Baptiste De Bruin and still a family brewery to this day; known as Brouwerij Schelfaut until 1919, when the name was changed to Brouwerij Bios by Paul Van Steenberge, who became the head of the operation in 1922. Currently operated by his great-grandson Jef Versele (since 1998). Underwent many technical upgrades and expansions since then, most notably in 2017 when new buildings were installed and production capacity was significantly increased.

Bottled. Golden coloured and very lively with rich head. Strong aroma of dried fruit and good, dry cider. Sweet and malty with clean, hard malt profile. The finish is drier and rounded, still fruity, and with grassy bitterness.

White ale, but to me, it has a litlle bit a watery-colour, although it has a nice white head. It has a typical Witbier-aroma (like Hoegaarden), it smells like some kind of soda. It has even the typical (quite disgusting) flavour of the Hoegaarden beer. The difference between this-one and Hoegaarden is very small.

Bottle: Poured a dark yellowish ale with a large head that disapear quickly. Typical Tripel but not as good as Westmalle. Good taste of wheat. Overall not my favorite but still very refreshing

Very cloudy brown color, with a thick beige creamy head. Malty and nutty aroma, caramel and toffee. Same taste, but a bit more metallic taste. Slight bitter and dry finish, and the 'double' taste doesn't remain quite well.

Pours a solid orange color with an ultra-thin off-white head. No lacing. Aroma is sweet spices, with a faint skunky presence here and there. Flavor is almost dominated by the alcohol, but there are nice malt and grapefruit flavors apparent as well. Overall not a bad experience but this beer isn't up there with some of the better Belgians I have had.

Cloudy golden color, with a medium-size longlasting creamy head. Aroma is sweet, cheesy, citrus. Taste is citric, spicy, bit sharp of alcohol perhaps. Palate is lasting, sweet spices with a touch of alcohol. Triple like beer, which is pretty good and recommendable.

Bottled (at the Rate Beer gathering at Flying Saucer, Addison).
Deep ruby with rich head. Dry prune aroma. Woody, dry and pleasantly malty with rasiniy mild finish. Very stylish.

Hazy amber; yeasty, dry maltiness on the nose. Spritzy, slightly cakey malt, allspice, hop dryness. Intended to be consumed alongside mussels, and alongside meules belgiques the yeastiness dropped out of the beer, which to me was an improvement. The mussels improved the beer, but the beer didn't really do anything for the mussels.

Dark yellow color, lasting head, but not as big as the piraat 9%. Also not as spicy and citrussy as the 9. Overall this is a pretty good brew, but it lacks some complexity.
