This is a very rich and good beer. Fortunately it is also very cheap from Trader Joe’s. The oatmeal taste is strong, but not overpowering. Tis a dark beer and goes down smoother than do most stouts. It also has the delightful advantage of leaving the taste in your mouth and making all ensuing beers taste the same way. It made the Bud Light I drank after this a little bit more enjoyable.

Bottle from Trader Joes; lagerish grainy aroma; dark gold with a small white head; flavor is spicy malt with a small amount of hops which linger into the finish. Mendocino beers are all better than this is rated! It’s not a 1.9 beer! Not super hoppy but a decent beer.

Bottle dated 8/28/06. Another Trader Joe’s store brand. I go at it with reduced expectations, and could end up surprised. Smell is a tad oxydized and tinny. Pours a good Vienna/Okto color in a tall tumbler, with a short, clingy head. Taste is only slightly more malty than a standard pale lager Pasteurized and force carbonated to remove some of its character. I’m just not impressed.

Bottle. Light amber color, much more lighter than I had thought it would end up being. As another user said, it is best when cool, not cold. Malty flavor is powerful, and nice.

Bottle. Rich amber beer with an off-white head. Low spicy/earthy/sweet malt aroma. Light caramel flavor with some spice. Medium body. Lingering sweetness. Not bad, but a bit too sweet.

Pour is red with a white fizzy head. Aroma is quite hoppy for an irish red, also some rye shows up. Flavor is a burnt malt with a touch of zesty hops. To bad the hops are pretty much hidden. Amping them up would make this a better brew. Overall this is just so-so and nothing special.
