Hazy orange and copper coloured body with a thick dense tan head. Aroma of bright pungent grassy and citrus hops with a lot of alcohol, metal and quite a bit of resin. Full-bodied; Deep rich malty flavour with a lot of citrus, earth, grass and resiny hop notes, some alcohol, some metal and a lot of good malt balance. Aftertaste is mostly hops, but that makes sense for the style. Overall,a nice imperial ipa, but not outstanding - simply good. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Tustin, California on 03-February-2012 for US$5.49 sampled at home in Washington on 09-March-2012.

Big thanks to Dak for sharing this one. It pours a liquid chocolate brownie with mahogany edges and thin tan head. The aroma offers up big brash notes of bourbon, vanilla, burnt malts and chocolate. Nice. The taste is the same with some sweet bourbon and vanilla notes that have sort of rough boozy edges and the following notes are not able to pull them in and smooth them out. I get highly roasted malts to burnt malts as well as a pleasing and yummy chocolate note. I took a taste and then got into a conversation for about ten minutes. After that time I was still getting pleasing notes of chocolate bar and highly roasted malts lingering and lingering in my mouth. It seems those flavors could go on for days and days. I considered waiting longer to ponder the after taste but the pull to take another sip was too strong.

On tap. Not one of my favorite Hangar 24 beers. Pours with a murky brown body with a tan head that fades to a ring. Aromas are vinous, grapes, brown sugar, leather, cinnamon, cocoa, dusty chocolate. Flavors are dusty, bready, malty, cocoa, brown sugar, vinous, dusty, boozy. Mildly metallic character. Medium bubbles, fuller body. Not extremely enjoyable compared to some of their other beers.

Bomber from Beverages 4 Less in Santee, CA. Pours hazy light amber with a large creamy/bubbly near-beige head. Cat pee aroma! Full bodied! Flavor is lots of grapefruit rind over light caramel that just drowns in hop. Think there’s lots of floral and resin, but it’s mostly grapefruit rind. If this keeps up, we’ll be talking SC* instead of NW when it comes to hoppiness. Absolutely great ale. *Southern California

Bomber courtesy of stefanje. Thanks! Pours a hazy orange color with a large frothy off-white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of resin, herbal and citrus hops with faint malts. The taste is big resiny hops, herbal, tropical and mint notes. Medium-full bodied. Lingering bitterness. Sticky texture, strong carbonation.

On tap. Pours with a clear golden yellow body with a massive white head that fades. Aromas are tart, lactic, jolly rancher, tart apple, grainy and ginger. Odd. Flavors are strange too. Tart, apple, 4vg/clove, apple, coriander and carrot cake (strong carrot flavor). Medium acidity, low alcohol. Lively carbonation, dry, and mildly tart.

Bottle shared by Steve at my house. Pours black with brown head. Nose/taste of maple, warm chocolate chip cookie dough, oak, marshmallow, chocolate and light bourbon alcohol in finish. Delicate fluffy mouth feel. Medium body.

On cask at the brewery. Thanks Tim, pours light orange with a pink haze, big frothy white head. Aroma is tart soured malts, citrus zest, and big wood notes. Flavor is unlike anything I have had before, the oak in this beer was just outstanding. Big tart citric notes with a semi-sweet/tart cranberry element and again, lots of wood. Dry finish. Top notch stuff, I would expect nothing less!

Bomber from Beverages 4 Less. Pours pretty dark brown with a 4 finger foamy tan head. Aromas of chocolate and coffee. Med body. Flavor is chocolate with some vanilla, followed by a touch of coffee. There’s also some fairly burnt malt - which is marginally less than smooth. It’s smoothly chocolatey sweet, but there’s enough bitter here to pretty well balance that. It’s quite tastey.
