26/8/2021. Cask at the 2021 East Anglian Beer Festival, Bury St Edmunds. Pours clear black with a small creamy beige head. Lovely looking beer. Aroma of ash, roasted malt, liquorice, vanilla, dark chocolate, dark fruit, coffee. Medium sweetness, light to moderate roasted bitterness. Moderate body, oily watery texture, average carbonation. Dry, roasted finish. Good but would have benefitted from a bit more body.

Cask at the Allied Arms, Reading. This was my first cask beer of the year following all the Covid bollox (although not my first pub beer), do it was gratifying that it was served in top-notch condition (as I'd expected in this nice pub). More black than ruby and with a thick creamy-beige head and a light fizz. Nice smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Taste of milk chocolate and lightly toasted malt. It's pretty simple, but tasty, satisfying and surprisingly easy to drink for a dark beer on a warm night. A good beer with which to start the (fingers crossed) return to pub normality.

[Cask at the Bell, Waltham St Lawrence.] A bright amber pour with a loose white head; herbal aroma; bitter herbal taste with traces of dandelion and burdock; and a bitter finish with a trace of spice.

Half-pint, cask at Greyfriar. Shared with Finn. Faint lacing, smell fawn-coloured head, jet black body. Roasted creamy malts on the nose. Malt-driven flavours containing impacts of dark chocolate, earth, and bread. Smooth roasted malty bitterness to the finish. Medium bodied. Likable stout version. (Reading 20.10.2019).

Cask (Alehouse, Reading) - Golden with a faint haze. Floral hops, hop resins and grass in the aroma. Crisp and moderately bitter taste with lemon, hop resins, grass and a hint of orange. Refreshing and enjoyable.
