Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours a murky yellow-brown with minimal off-white head and good lacing. There’s tropical fruits in the aroma, plus some oats. In the mouth it has a very pithy texture, but with some sweetness included Flavours of grapefruit, oranges and melon, plus some wheaty traces. Finish is sharp and sticky. Jury is out on this one. Lots of things I don’t like about it, but altogether its quite decent.

Gravity dispense at the 'Beer Like Your Grandad Used To Drink' Beer Festival, Ramsgate Tunnels, 13/05/23. Pitch black with a good sized lasting khaki head. Nose is rich roast, chocolate, dark malts, honeycomb, burnt toffee. Taste comprises chocolate biscuit, toffee crisp, dried fruit rinds, charr, Crunchie bar, light spice, dried red berries, modest port notes. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, light drying close. Solid cask stout.

Keg at the 39 Steps, Broadstairs, 13/05/23. Clear golden with a decent lasting white cap ... full glass lacing ensues, rather unusual for a keg. Nose is orange peel, airy malts, grass, melon, tangerine. Taste comprises orange zest, citric tinged straw, mineral bite, toasted grains, melon. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with mellow hop bitterness. It's okay if a touch muted and lacking hop presence.

Cask at the Bear, Paddington on 10th May 2023. Golden amber with shallow off-white foam and spot lacing. Rich nutty malt aroma. Nutty in-mouth and a somewhat dry finish with lingering nutty maltiness. Light body and a smooth mouthfeel.

Cask at the Hackney Tap - Hackney. Pours hazed honey-gold with a super tight, creamy off-white head. Lightly sweet flavour with oddly creamy character, some husky bitterness, sun-kissed pale grains, nips of British yeast and citrus peel, hay. Light bodied with massaging carbonation. Creamy pale malt finish. Not bad overall. Just oddly creamy for a cask beer.

Panda 🐼 at home big thanks to Colin. A mostly clear deep orange coloured pour with a small halo ofoff white head. Aroma is semi sweet, weed, hedgerow hop, grass, earthy grains, Flavour is composed of semi sweet, earthy, light tang, hedgerow hops, dirty round the edges. Dirty grains. Palate is grainy, light tang, moderate carbonation. passable.

Taste comprises biscuit, grains, orange peel, soft malts, grass, melon. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close Passable pale ... lacking direction and hop presence.

Cask at CBC, Covent Garden on 7th January 2023. Hazy amber with shallow off-white foam and spot lacing. Hoppy aroma with citrus and a hint of soapiness. Spicy citrus peel in-mouth and a bitter grassy, herby and spicy finish. Notes of Earl Grey tea and hints of woodsmoke. Smooth mouthfeel and a light body

Bottle at the neighbours, picked up at the Northdown taproom, 07/01/23. Lightly hazed golden blonde with a decent lasting just off white head. Nose is dusty fruit esters, herb, hedgerow, earthy, straw. Taste comprises stewed fruits, herb, straw, grains, earth hop. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with an earthy green hop presence. Passable pale ... I had a few of the 2022 crop of Green Hop Kentish beers and this was probably the weakest.
