NorthDown brew award winning beers with a focus on hop forward modern ales, producing a variety of beers spanning cask perfect best bitters, modern hazy pale ales and flavour forward IPAs.
Founded in 2018 by Husband & Wife duo Jonny & Katie Spanjar who were drawn to Margate for its coastal vibes, embracing community and bountiful history. Their hard work truly paid off with recent industry gongs for their two most loved beers - The ‘Taste of Kent Awards’ taking home Best Kent Beer 2020 for ‘Pale Ale Mary’ Pale Ale and winning praise from the cask ale aficionados CAMRA with a medal for ‘Merry Margate’ Golden Session Ale in the Kent CAMRA festival 2019.

Cask at Egham Easter 24. Aroma is malty and chocolatey. Dark and glossy. Thick foamy beige head. Sour berries. Espresso. Cacao. Light-medium bodied. Slick to oily. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Nice enough.

Cask at CBC, Clerkenwell on 8th March 2024. Gold with off-white foam and full lacing. Zesty peel aroma. Rich citrus juice and peel in-mouth and a leafy hop finish. Full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel.

Cask by stillage at One Inn The Wood, Petts Wood on 5th January 2024. Almost impenetrably black and pale tan foam foam spot lacing. Rich coffee roast malt aroma. Roasty malts in-mouth with tangy fruits and coffee. A finish of both flavours. Light to medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel.

Cask by stillage at One Inn The Wood, Petts Wood on 5th January 2024. Thickly hazy yellowy amber with shallow, whitish foam and full lacing. Zesty grapefruit peel aroma. Rich blend of zesty citrus, earthiness and smoky spices in-mouth, mirrored in the finish, before pointed bitterness develops. Medium bodied with a crisp mouthfeel.

Cask at the Thirty Nine Steps, Broadstairs, 24/11/23. Clear golden with a good sized lasting white head. Nose is airy malts, cereals, lemon rind, grains, herb. Taste comprises herb, hedgerow, grains, straw, lemon nip. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Passable gold ... on the dull side for me.

Keg at GBBF'23, day 3, 08/03/23. Murky orange with an off white head. Nose is bitter orange, grass, papaya, mango zip. Taste comprises orange pith, raw pineapple, grass, melon, bitter tropical fruits. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with juicy hop bitterness. Not bad.
