Description
Goose Island Beer Company began as a single brewpub opened in 1988 by John Hall. By 1995, John’s beer had become so popular that he decided to open a larger brewery, along with a bottling plant to keep up with demand. 1999 brought even more growth, along with an additional brewpub, and today, what was once one man’s pint-filled dream has become the Goose Island empire you know and love.
in 2011, Goose Island Beer Company was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev. Since then, we’ve continued to brew beer that we’re proud of and now we get to share these beers with our friends both nationwide and internationally.

Tasty, decently balanced, but certainly rich, boozy, some dark chocolate, berries, cherry perhaps. Somewhat understated for the heft, in a good way. Very drinkable.

Bottle share at CBJ. Thanks to me. Near opaque dark brown beer, no real head. Airy palate, fairly dry, decent fine carbonation. Somewhat thin dark malts, a light but pleasing dark chocolate streak. Some alcohol spice. A light and slightly ripe cherry steak. Airy and semi dry finish. Light spicy linger. Goes down pretty easy but, I am struggling to understand why this is getting hyper rates.

500ml bottle. Jet black colour with small, frothy, fading, tan head. BA supported (if not dominated), roasty, slightly chocolately, dark malty aroma, notes of dark chocolate and Bourbon, hints of leather, vanilla, plum wine, plum butter, caramel, dark caramel, whiffs of marmite, oak, cinnamon, bramble, treacle. Taste is BA supported, sweet-ish, slightly chocolately and roasty, dark malty, slightly caramel malty, quite spicy and alcoholic, notes of marmite, caramel, Bourbon, some treacle, a touch of leather, vanilla, later some fruity-alcoholic hints of bramble and plum; lingering, warming, alcoholic finish.
Viscous texture, smooth, cloying, simulaneously slightly pungent (alcoholic) palate, medium, mildly prickly carbonation.
Excellent nose with a plethora of (sadly rather ephemeral) subtleties, relatively clumsy, hefty and naturally boozy concerning taste; overall a bit edgy and balky, unnecessarily excessive regarding strength/force/power - not worth the hype. Leaves you behind in a kind of postcoital dysphoria.

0,75l bottle at home. Vintage 2018. black color, small tan head. smells bourbon, vanilla, light soy sauce, nutty, walnuts, hazelnuts, molasses. nice to very nice smell. full body, light carbonation. tastes bourbon, vanilla, nutty, some dried fruits, tad boozy, light fudge, coconut, spices. finishes lightly sweet with notes of bourbon, vanilla and fudgy notes. very nice one, smells had some oxidation notes, but taste was very nice, lots and lots of bourbon. Light booze, but thankfully only hints of sweet. very good one.

19.2 oz tallboy can. Pours an opaque hazy orange color. Half-inch head fizzes off right away. A lot of pineapple and maybe some orange in the nose, instead of any notable hop scent. Taste is sweet with citrus and pineapple flavor, again not much in hop bitterness. Admittedly, pineapple doesn't always agree with me, but it's only here in sweetness and not overwhelming.

Nose is ripe fruit esters, sticky toffee, bourbon rip, molasses, toasted brown sugars.

Full bodied, oily feel, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost.
Solid BA Life.
