Description
Goose Island Beer Company began as a single brewpub opened in 1988 by John Hall. By 1995, John’s beer had become so popular that he decided to open a larger brewery, along with a bottling plant to keep up with demand. 1999 brought even more growth, along with an additional brewpub, and today, what was once one man’s pint-filled dream has become the Goose Island empire you know and love.

in 2011, Goose Island Beer Company was acquired by Anheuser-Busch InBev. Since then, we’ve continued to brew beer that we’re proud of and now we get to share these beers with our friends both nationwide and internationally.

Despite the twist-off cap, it's showed little oxidation. Instead, pours a deep brown, with just a few bubbles. Sweet malt smell with a bit of brown sugar. Nice, deep malt taste, still a slight edge of bitterness. Alcohol has just a bit of a burn. Does lack the extra sweetness of a usual dubbel, but that makes it easier to manage. Layer of sediment at the bottom of the bottle is not easily dislodged by mere swirling.

bottle, 2022 tasted 2025-09-29
wow. coffee in fact dominates the aroma, followed by bourbon and roasted malts, coconut peppery note that blends with the alcohol. faint 99% dark chocolate,
flavor is coffee , roasted malts, bourbon (faint) coconut, faint tartness from the coffee, faint licorice, very faint cake frosting (sort of aromatic vanilla ish)
quite interesting and not like the other bourbon county stouts i've tasted recently. more dry and less woody, certainly less bourbony. they managed to balance the beer even though the coffee is insane in this one. tastes good. perhaps a tiny bit watery for a strong imp stout. Very tasty indeed anyways.
