Description

75 cl bottle. Blonde with a touch of orange, creamy stedy head. A rather harsh woody hopbitterness in the aroma when served cold. Slightly yeasty. Fruity flavor. Grapefruit and notes of red berries. The raw hoppiness lingers on and on in the earthy bitter woody aftertaste. A flowery aroma with red berries comes up as the beer warmens up. It just gets better and better. Not an optimal balance, but a very interesting and succeeded experiment. Don’t serve this beer too cold, a minimum of 10 degr C will do.

Bottle @ the brewery and later @ home. Slight cellar aroma with a hint of sulphur. Pineapple and peach. Firm earthy hopbitter flavor with hints of citrus and pineapple overshadowing the malty notes. Less malty sweet as a Zoigl, but that is compensated by the firm hop character. Good balance. Not far away from the better rural Bavarian Landbiere. Don’t pour it too cold. The brewery also sells this beer as Mommeriete Landgoedbier. After a few days extra lagering the cellar aroma has disappeared and the flavor has developed a bit further.

Bottle, tasted at the brewery and , later, @home. "The Dutch answer to Schlenkerla Bock" I said at the brewery, and I still stand by that remark. Should be served at 10 Degr C. Smoked ham, beechwood and pineapple in the aroma. The flavor hardly leaves room for any fruity esters, not even at a higher temperature. Just an uncompromising fat malty flavor with loads of smoke and a touch of alcohol. Fat bacon and beechwood smoke. Only a touch of dark chocolate. Endless aftertaste. This beers grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. Mommeriete is at its very best when pushing the limits of German beertypes. Re-rate: had a 2009 sample from tap in Hengelo. The fat bacon and beechwood aromas and flavors were quite noticeable. Yet the beer was decptively drinkable. Excellent!

Bottle from test batch, kindly provided by the brewer. Deep dark brown color, small but steady head. Malty, roasty aroma with hints of laurel and chocolate. Full bodied, thick mouthfeel. Very malty sweetish, roasty flavor with chocolate, licorice and laurel. Low on carbon, yet full of flavor. Some warming alcohol. A good balance in spite of the alcohol. Nice one. Unlabeled bottle, 10,8%. Dark brown color. Malty nutty aroma with earthy hops and traces of smoke. Sweet, almost sugary flavor with smoky notes, licorice and partly hidden earthy floral hops. The alcohol is also well hidden. Just a tad too sweet but deceptively drinkable.

Bottle, bought at Bessentuin Brucht. Pinkish amber color. Blue berries and tannines in the aroma. Thinnish. Citrus and blue berries in the flavor. Dry, only the fruit, no added sugars. Somewhat fizzy but friendly and some milky and yeasty notes. Adequate.

Bottle, gift from the brewers. Roast, hints of coffee and raisin in the shy aroma. Full bodied, thick on the tongue. Very low on carbon. Malty sweet flavor with roast, coffee, laurel and raisin. Slightly alcoholic. Very young, but showing a lot of promise. Needs time to fully develop.
