Description
Calvors Brewery was created in 2008 to brew proper English Lagers, without compromise! We have been crafting award-winning beers ever since, becoming known for our distinctive take on the much-celebrated lager styles of Europe. Sure, we're passionate about lager, but we also love a good ale and brew a growing selection of international styles. Calvors beers challenge the flavour and integrity of mass-produced brews and you won't find any of those nasty chemicals or preservatives. We brew by hand using only four ingredients: water, malt, hops and yeast.

Bottle from Cambridge Wine Merchants, consumed at home. Second beer in my new digs in Ely. Pours light brown, almost copper/Amber. Thin tan head. Light aroma: chocolate, caramel, cereal. Slightly musty. Taste is a delicate malty sweet, pleasant if not complex. Short to medium finish was a flash of caramel malt in the aftertaste. Nice enough.

Cask-conditioned on gravity at Swindon Beer Festival, 23/10/2014. Deep gold in colour. A malty bitter, with a touch of fruits and hint of hop in the finish. Ok.

Bottle from Waitrose, Stevenage. Yellow-blonde with a thin head. Floral, but not so pleasant nose with a better lager-malt taste with an ale texture.

Bottle from the Suffolk Food Hall, Ipswich. Attractive deep copper with a moderate cream head and a middling fizz. Sweet Horlicks maltiness up front with some chocolate too. Buttered diacetyl on toast to follow which may put some off but I rather like it in the right place- and it suits this beer. There’s a slightly off sour note in the finish but in general I quite enjoyed this.

Keg at the White Hart, Otley, Suffolk. Gleaming gold in hue with a small white head and a light fizz. Grassy up front with peachy notes coming through. For a lager this is pretty decent; the only downside is the mouthfeel, which is chalky and almost powdery. However, not bad, quite refreshing and very drinkable.

Bright clear gold beer, small white head. Palate is light and minerally crisp. Smooth light dry pale malt, slightly sweet. So this beer is called Hoperator and yet there is next to no hops here, a bare whisper at best. Light finish. Get real!

Bottle at The Cambridge Chop House, Cambridge (Lozs works Christmas Do) Monday 16th December 2013 Sweet lager its ok for the style if a little bit corny and even a bit buttery at edges, actually too sweet and not that refreshing I am drinking more sparkling water than I am this! Bottle at The Cambridge Chop House, Cambridge (Lozs works Christmas Do) Monday 16th December 2013 Not impressed, the coldness dulls the flavours somewhat which is probably a blessing. Amber in colour, good clarity, bit fruity, a light sour edge just a bit boring and poor. A5 A4 T6 P4 Ov10 2.8
