Description
Artisanally brewed in Amsterdam since 2011.

Combining influences from the rich European beer culture with a non-conformist attitude.

From a family heritage of Swedish farm brewers and trained by the masters of ale and porter in England, we ended up in the Netherlands to create our own microcosm in the world of beer.

Inspired by the lesser known sides of European brewing culture and devoted to uncommon artisanal techniques, Butcher's Tears makes distinctive beers that progress beyond fashion and convention.

330ml bottle. Cloudy, auburn colour with amber shimmer and small, creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, dark beige head. Slightly strange, toasty, grainy and biscuity malty, yeasty fruity and minimally leafy hoppy aroma, winegum overtones earthy whiffs of mushrooms. Taste is grainy and toasty malty, slightly yeasty fruity and minimally leafy hoppy, hints of winegum, a touch of mushrooms. Watery texture, minimally dry palate, medium, mildly prickly carbonation. Strange flavours across the board - weird stuff!

BBE Nov. 2024, and that's now, so not quite fresh. Pours a hazy deep golden body and a firm white head with reasonable retention. Aroma's: leafy hops, a bit fruity, light malts. Retronasal there's malts, a bit stale hops, the typical BT mossy yeast. Flavour is light sweet, fruity, light moderate bitter. Medium bodied. Bitterness increases leading to a firm bitter finish.

On tap. Pours black with full tan head. Aromas of peat, oak, grass and roasted malts. Flavors follow same with peaty iodine and slightly sour black coffee. A beer for the peat lover. Good.

Pours a mostly clear light amber body and a firm off white head with fair retention. Aroma's: pretty mild leafy hops, a bit cola. Retronasal there's more hopbitterness and the usual mossy BT yeast (?). Flavour is earthy bitter with a hint of fruity sour and later on even light sweetness. Medium bodied. Lingering bitterness, earthy and somewhat harsh.

Bottled Sept. 23. Pours a mostly clear dark brown body and a dense off white head with fair retention. Aroma's: malts, a bit roasted, light fruit. Retronasal it's sweetish, light roasted, the usual BT mossy yeast (albeit fairly subtle). Flavour is light moderate bitter, light sweet, with a hint of sour. Light bodied, but not too thin. Biterness increases in the finish. Pretty good.
