Description
CRATE was established in 2012 when the Olympics were in full swing just over the canal, and Hackney Wick was changing fast. CRATE thrives on creativity, free thinking, and working hard. The experimental brewhouse is where all the Limited Edition beers are created.

Latest news November 2020:
The situation is complex, but it seems that there were two separate companies, one for brewing and one for the bar business. Both hit financial trouble, and the brewing company went into administration. Truman's, needing a new site due to delays with their new brewery, are currently brewing in Crate's old brewing space. But the website is still online and Crate beers are still available...

Slightly hazy amber beer, white head. Light bitter hop aroma. Taste follows up on that with a little resinous quality and some tropical fruit. It's not special but it's crisp and decent.

A golden, dry, crisp pale ale which has a decent hoppiness to it and is citrusy and fresh but entirely unremarkable pale.

[33cl can from Tesco, Warfield.] A hazy amber pour with a billowing white head; tropical fruit aroma; sharp tropical fruit taste, mainly citrus; then a rather muddled finish. Pleasant enough, but similar to so many other modern beers describing themselves as Session IPAs.

[33cl can from Tesco, Winkfield] Stated ABV of 6%. A daeep golden amber pour with a thick cream head; resinous aroma; sweet jammy taste with some caramel and an earthy bitterness. Perhaps more of an ESB than an IPA, but rather good anyway.

Bottle at a tasting. Quite complex funk, combined with assertive blueberry presence. Also loads of general fruitiness. Med-med-high sourness, mostly lactic character. Thin, moderate carbonation. Quite good, tasty.

Hazy golden colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have a lot of floral hop notes together with lime citrus. Decent malt flavour too. Nice balance.
