Description
Established in 1984 as Barron Brewery by ex publican Richard Barron who converted a redundant cowshed into the brewery. Former brewers' wholesaler Guy Sheppard joined Richard in 1991 when the name was changed to Exe Valley Brewery and the plant was expanded and upgraded. Richard retired from the brewery in 2003 and Guy now runs the brewery on his own account along with two staff including James Fryer who is our Head Brewer.

On cask at the Caley Picture House. Appearance - golden amber with a nicely proportioned head. Nose - orange and barley. Taste - more orange barley water. Dry biscuit and orange lozenge on the finish. Palate - close to medium bodied with a middle section that is a bit challenging and the finish is fairly similar in that respect. Overall - a beer where you get more out of it if you persevere. Good.

Half-pint, from cask by gravity at the lovely Bridge Inn. Bubbly, low white head. Minimal lacing. Bright golden-brown body. Inviting aromas of citrus and brown malts. Blended taste profile of lemon, caramel and marmalade followed by a bittersweet end of citrus peels. Clean in the mouth. Pretty nice (Topsham 29.09.2016).

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Golden amber with a tight cream head that left lots of lacing on the glass; floral aroma; creamy body with some sweet purple fruit and pear, and a balanced bitterness; giving a smooth lasting dry bitter finish. For some reason quite a satisfying pint overall, although there’s nothing particularly noteworthy about it.
