Sustainability and locality is at the heart of what we do. Our water comes from deep in the Norfolk chalk from our private supply beneath the brewery, and is perfect for brewing real ale.
Our main ingredient, Maris Otter malting barley is grown locally at Branthill Farm on the Holkham Estate. This is some of he finest malting barley on the planet.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Appearance - deep brown to black with red chinks. If the head had hung about for a bit longer, we’d have been talking a 5. Nose - hazelnuts, sweet malt, a hint of chocolate. Taste - toffee and sweet nuts. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a balanced dry finish. Overall - decent.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Appearance - golden with a decent head. Nose - lemon barley water with lemon zest note that keeps going. Taste - more of the same. Very pithy. Palate - light bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry bitter finish. Overall - a solid citizen. Would be great mid summer I reckon.

Handpull pint at the Cock Inn, Madingley. Dark gold, clear. Not much head to speak of... and not much aroma either. A bit of hay and wood. Taste is much improved, some honeyed sweetness with a bitter kick. Nice bitter golden syrup finish. Pretty good.

Bottle conditioned 500ml: from Beers of Europe. Poured carefully into an Abbot Ale glass tankard at home on 15th Jan 2016. Deep, dark brown body, tanned wispy head. Chocolate nose and taste, no trace of nuts or squirrels in either the aroma or flavour: disappointing! Actually it was a very easy drinking Mild with a true chocolate feel throughout. The finish is on the dry side and slightly bitter, but this is predominately all about the malts and the chocolate esters they have given to the beer.
