An Imperial IPA acquired from the decent folk at Half Time Beverage some months ago. An IPA, it needs to be consumed from what I see on the bottom stamp. The pour inside of my Great Heights snifter from the 12 oz can arrives orange-gold followed by a heroic top of off-white foam. I smell tropical, maybe guava, and some citrus working its way in along with a spot of hops. The taste goes a bit unusual, is that some spiciness in there? In any case there is orange rind, cedar resin, white bread, a mango sweetness. The sensation is substantial. Interesting brew, A good sampling.

A 12 oz bottle being one of a sequence of three purchased from Half Time in NY state. Cooled off somewhat, I now tilt the bottle into a Teku glass. The view is an appropriate dark mahogany brown body topped with a skim of khaki tan foam. The nose is quite fine as I anticipated. Dark fruit, chocolate, grain and roast. As good as the scent might be, the taste is better. Dark raisins, chocolate malt, bread, toffee, ripe plums and a bit of leather. Boozy of course and there is a small bitterness at the end. The brewery continues to succeed with this kind of beer.

One pint can from the inventory at Half Time in New York. An imperial stout with cinnamon and chile peppers? Not so sure of this. In front of me is a snifter from Ft. Worth, I open the can and pour. An absolutely impenetrable dark brown liquid with a persistent cover of light tan foam. The scent is attractive with baked bread, chocolate and malt. I have a drink and find cinnamon initially and then grain, chocolate, a touch of candy and some heat at the end. I do note a decent thickness to the beer. Interesting enough and drinkable but not much my thing as a departure from the usual imperial stout.

We walked out of the hotel in the Paddington area of the West End and located a decently different pub close by. I ordered a pint but the bartender said she could only offer half that much. Too potent. The pour was a hazy, milky light orange with a thin skim of absolutely white foam. I smelled plenty tropical fruit with just a hint of citrus. Interesting taste, there was grapefruit, papaya, malt, a nice touch of hops and cereal. A fair amount of sweetness and some bitterness. Not bad. I contemplated getting another half pint but thought I might get turned down.

I had a 17 cl pour at Olhallen in Tromso last month on our trip to the northern end of Norway. Lots of taps to pick from, this beer appeared to offer the most. Not inexpensive at around $10 but it is Norway. It served up black, very black with a ring of mahogany foam. I got a smell of dark chocolate and grain. The taste delivered licorice, baker’s chocolate, wheat bread, candy and a touch of strawberries. Nice imperial stout.

Lawson's mostly top shelf for IPAs with me. This stovepipe can was acquired from Half Time some months ago, time to have a sampling. A basic beer glass is in place and I pour. The arrival is a clear orange-amber body completed by a full head of off-white foam. The smell is obvious at opening of the can, I get sweet tropical, citrus and a promise of hops. The taste is, well, it is good, strikes me as a hybrid IPA, a little of this, a bit of that. There is orange juice, grapefruit, plenty of hops and an accompanying bitterness, malt, crackers, caramel and a touch of mangoes. I will say IPAs are a distance from my favorite styles but this is one fine IPA. WC or NE style, you take your choice.

Found a 12 oz can at the local beer shop, Mr. T's. Into a bar glass, it pours green, no surprise, and carries a strong carbonation. It smells somewhat of lime but there appears to be something a bit off. So time for a drink. Well, this is now going the right direction. I find the taste to likely be the most margarita-like in a beer I have had and there have been more than a few. Proper lime flavor, a slight orange liqueur effect and considerable alcohol. And now I'll add some ice and drink this thing right.
