About
Note that the Thornbridge Hall series (largely one off and specials circa 2010-15) deliberately carry the Thornbridge name in their title.

Innovation Passion and Knowledge in all we do - and to have some fun along the way. The Thornbridge story began back in 2005 when the founders Jim Harrison and Simon Webster recruited two young brewers to brew on a second hand 10-barrel kit in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall. Soon demand outstripped supply and the need for a new Brewery became clear. In 2009 a brand new state of the art brewery was built at Riverside, Bakewell to meet with demand and allow Thornbridge to develop their range of beers.

Brewing still takes place today on the original kit at Thornbridge Hall, which allows us to experiment with new brews, create bespoke Hall brews, collaborations and assist the main brewery in Bakewell.

6th June 2010. On tap at Brasserie 4:20.
Last beer of the RBESG 10 trip - how ironic it ended up being an English Bitter. Certainly did not make me feel homesick! Cloudy brown beer, little tan head. Light and very dry palate. Caramel malt with a little hop bitterness but the way over dry palate really detracts. I’m heartily sick of over dry English beers - just stop it! I drink beer for thirst and pleasure not to mimic having a mouthful of sand! Original rating 2.2

2nd August 2010. Thornbridge event at the Cask & Kitchen.
Clear brown beer with a little cream head. Light semi dry palate. Tea like malt with a little citrus. Whisper of sulphur. Malt turns a little creamy. Finishes fruity. Well balanced and decent. A much better experience than my first tasting of this!

Cask at Cask pub and kitchen, Pimlico, London a month or so back. Jet black pour with a healthy beige head. Chocolate/coffee aroma. This is a really thick porter, tastes of chocolate, coffee, hint of liquorice, roasty, dark fruit. Pretty good but not an easy drinker for me.

(Cask at Cask Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico, London, 21 May 2010) Pitch black colour with brief, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with strong black coffee, dark chocolate, dark rye bread and a touch of vanilla. Roasted, malty taste with notes of espresso, dark chocolate, liquorice, a touch of soy sauce and a generous coffee bitterness in the finish. Full body, almost massive, and fairly sweet. This is my kind of beer. Impressive and quite lovely.

(Cask at Cask Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico, London, 21 May 2010) Dark amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, slightly toasty nose with dark fruit, raisins and dusty hops. Malty, nutty taste with notes of toasty malt, dried fruit and dusty hops. Below medium body, balanced sweetness. Rather low profile for a Thornbridge beer, but a tasty and well balanced bitter.
