About
Note that the Thornbridge Hall series (largely one off and specials circa 2010-15) deliberately carry the Thornbridge name in their title.

Innovation Passion and Knowledge in all we do - and to have some fun along the way. The Thornbridge story began back in 2005 when the founders Jim Harrison and Simon Webster recruited two young brewers to brew on a second hand 10-barrel kit in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall. Soon demand outstripped supply and the need for a new Brewery became clear. In 2009 a brand new state of the art brewery was built at Riverside, Bakewell to meet with demand and allow Thornbridge to develop their range of beers.

Brewing still takes place today on the original kit at Thornbridge Hall, which allows us to experiment with new brews, create bespoke Hall brews, collaborations and assist the main brewery in Bakewell.

Cask gravity at Reading BF 2010. Black, lasting bubbly tan head. Liquorice aroma, tarry in mouth. Bit harsh maybe, grainy touch of powder. It’s alright, decent dark choc flavour. But not my favourite especially as just a bit too tarry and I’m not a fan of liquorice in a beer.

Cask handpull at Reading BF 2010. Orange copper colour, lasting thin white head. Lovely citrus hoppy aroma. Floral fresh hop flower, quite light in mouth, but some dryness. Good floral hop. Tasty if light. Re rate at County Hotel JDW Ashford. Hoppier than I remember. So gets one more point.

[Gravity cask at Reading BF] Black with a large, loose beige head. Huge floral aromas. Big hit of citrus on the initial taste - mrs fonefan said she could tell how good it was by the big smile that appeared on my face. Then there’s some coffee, and a bitter roasted flavour - possibly a little too burnt for my liking, but only just. Pine arrives late to the party, but you can taste it for some time afterwards. I’ve never had a black IPA before, and to me it wasn’t like a stout and IPA mixed together (as some people have suggested). It was more like you’re drinking a separate stout and IPA at the same time. It shouldn’t work, but it does - this is an outstanding beer. If all black IPAs are this good, I want more!

[Gravity cask at Reading BF - thanks chriso for sharing] Black with a deep tan head. Thick and oily. Very medicinal, with the iodine flavour of some Islay whiskies. It’s a flavour I usually like, but not here; it’s combined with very sticky liquorice and a bitter, bitumen finish that didn’t work for me.
