Description
The Brooklyn Brewery started with a dream to return brewing to Brooklyn, once a powerhouse of American beer production. Today our beers travel to more than half the United States and over thirty countries. Our James Beard Award-winning Brewmaster Garrett Oliver and his team brew everything from classic styles to bold experiments and collaborate with brewers, innovators and artists from around the globe. We’ve met wonderful people in remarkable places, and we can’t wait to show everyone what’s next.

In 2016, Brooklyn Brewery sold 24.5 percent to Kirin, Japan’s second-biggest brewer. The partnership allowed Brooklyn Brewery to use Kirin’s distribution arm to sell in Japan and Brazil.

On draught at Anam Cara Feb 2005. Ruddy brown color, tans and mahogany tinges throughout, transluscent body and a small off-white head. Smells of brown sugar, caramel, raisins and light barley. Flavor is sweet, lightly sticky texture, with vanilla and an ever so slight amount of coffee. Medium-light body is my biggest complaint, but for a sweeter, dark malted session type ale, it’s quite good. Moderate carbonation, low hops profile.

Rated 1/31/05 from bottled dated "Best before Mar 04." Despite it’s age, it’s still an excellent original English version of an IPA: well-hopped but not overdone. Pours a mellowed amber color under a quarter inch head. Hop character is citrusy, not puckery. Manages a good caramel malt taste. Holds up very well, and thanks to DocLock for this trade last year.

Draught sample at EBF05. Pours a light brown with some deep auburn tinges to it and a firm light tan head. Aroma of candi sugar, bubble gum, bananas and light hops. Flavor is fairly simple, sweet residual sugars play with bubble gum and a good dose of caramel sweetness, while a restrained Belgian yeast character adds light complexity. Finish is sweet, a touch doughy, with light hops bitterness and more caramel and banana or perhaps, caramelized bananas. Smooth, even, medium-full body with no traces of wateriness. Well-made on all levels, a bit sweet and uncomplex, but I enjoyed it.

Bottle. Malty, salty, fruitym sherry-like aroma. Black colour, brown head. Fresh chocolate flavour with acidity and liquorice. Very full-flavoured and tasty. Aftertaste like bitter chocolate.

Draught - I didn’t really find this at all thin, like most others seem to have - not as sweet as I expected, more of a crisp spice to it, with subdued caramel character - a bit of chocolate in the finish.

Bottle, winter ’04-’05
Even before my nose is close to the glass I get a whiff of dark chocolate, very nice. Jet black, thin brown halo on top. Rich dark chocolate flavor, roasted malt and burned sugar, vineous fruity notes. Roasted coffeeish notes round the flavors off. Creamy mouthfeel, medium to full body. A truly elegant brew.

2004 draught @ Redbones. Pours a deep dark yellow, rusty and somewhat viscous looking (lightly hazy, wavy and thick looking). White whispy head. Aroma of old soily hops, sweet butter toffee, popcorn. Flavor begins somewhat reminiscent of EKU Eisbock, it’s got the sugary, sweet yellow fruits, light earthy, graininess in the background and a syrupy (not in a bad way) somewhat thick body. Hints of bitterness arise on the finish, but it is a restrained and pleasing bitterness. Succulent caramel and light apricots, nectarines and oranges dance on the palate as it finishes. Light alcohol notes interplay with the hops, creating a unique flavor which actually makes me remark to my girlfriend how unique this beer is (she dosent care). Interesting and very good. It’s kind of a sexless beast, with no distinctive English yeast or American hops, but good nonetheless.

Orange beer with short-lived head. Rich aroma of roses, grass, peach and strawberries. Hops-dominated bitter flavour with an almost tobacco’ish dryness on top of a little fruityness. Long lasting hop bitter aftertaste.
