This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a semi-dark hazy bronzed orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light lacing roaming all around the glass in a messy sort of fashion.
The smell starts off with a nice tropical fruitiness rolling over some nice sweet onion hop oils. It lets in a nice grassiness to balance.
The taste had a bittersweet citrus to tropical fruitiness and rind like qualities. The sweet onion blends in with the grassiness again. There’s no aftertaste but it does have a nice sweet onion/grassy/tropical fruitiness running over in the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with an okay sessionability about it. Carbonation finishes fairly harsh, probably could have been a tad milder to allow the hops be the bitterness.
Overall, for the most part, it’s a real nice DIPA, definitely different for Rock Art. I think if Rock Art tamed the carbonation just a bit, this one could be a knock out.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Cabot - Waterbury, 7/31/15
Aroma: The nose is grainy mostly, a good amount of spice, and some herbal notes as well
Appearance: It pours a mostly clear golden color with a small, fizzy head and light lace
Flavor: The flavor is similar to the aroma component-wise, lightly sweet, light-medium bitter
Palate: The body is light-medium, fairly fizzy, fairly drinkable, and a little dry as well
Overall Impression: Not a bad summer thirst quencher. It seems to be a little too over carbonated, but otherwise, it does what it is trying to do.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Winooski Beverage, 7/24/15
Aroma: The nose is strongly tropical and citrus hops, lead by tangerine/orange
Appearance: It pours a hazy orange with a nice sheet of beige head and medium, drippy lace
Flavor: The flavor doesn't quite live up to the aroma, lightly sweet, with a medium bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, the carbonation is soft-to-average, and a finishes with a light dryness
Overall Impression: Really has an excellent hop aroma. The rest of the beer is solid to very good, but nothing else can live up to the wonderfulness of that aroma. Nice DIPA overall.

650 ml bottle purchased at the brewery for a steep price of $12.99. Deep dark ruby color with huge head even after a slow pour. After the massive head died down, the aroma is of buttery bourbon, dark fruits and tobacco leaves.
The body is way lighter then I was looking for in a BBA scotch ale, to the point of watery. The caramel, toffee becomes very thin. The bourbon does linger after the sip and gives a warming sensation after the swallow but that would only be nice with a base that was thicker and not as watery. It’s almost like its a BBA amber ale, no solid base to be found.

This was poured into a chalice.
The appearance was a dark hazy amber color with a slim quarter finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated within seconds.
The smell starts off with a semi-sweet cooked caramel malt trying to blend with light vanilla and herbal/tea-like qualities running over some light cooked cocoa tones.
The taste pretty much copies the aroma decently. There’s no aftertaste but it does have a slight smooth semi-dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a decent sipping quality about it. Carbonation hits just a tad harder than other Barleywines I’ve had.
Overall, mostly average barleywine with a mouthfeel that probably could be tamed a tad more.

4 oz. sample at the source. Really nice looking; full lasting tan head on a completly black liquid. Aroma is just awesome. Red grapes, plums, deep roasted grain and dark chocolate hints. In the flavor the red wine barrel is obvious, vinous with a juicy grape character. The ABV is hidden pretty well, I just wish the body had just a little more fullness. The barrel treatment did this a lot of Justice. Pretty delightful to try.

Sample at Rock Art, very clear amber color, fast dying head. Aroma is stale English malts, caramel, mild toffee and house yeast. The flavor is much the same. Very mild example of a barely wine. Well, it did start over 10 years ago...

Draft @ Rock Art. Mostly clear yellow lasting head. Really great aroma of tropical fruit, green onion and notes of weak grass. The flavor is identical to the aroma. The bitterness is here but does not linger. Nice stuff.

Draft sample at Rock Art. Nice pink/ purple color, lasting head. Aroma is tart berry, yeast. The flavor is the said tart berry with a mild herbal presence through the center. The texture is bone dry with a very weak tartness. Simple and clean.

2014 vintage bomber from the brewery. Clear dark red-brown, thin fizzy tan head. Good retention. Aroma of toasted malt, raisin, chocolate. The taste is caramel, toasted malt, nuts, herbal hops, mild spice. Medium bodied, low carbonation.
