320ml Can pours a crystal clear barely perceptible color of pale straw. Momentary fleeting white head. Aroma of sweet corn, honey and hay. Flavor was sweet, fizzy and devoid of any redeeming qualities. It was wet though, which I supose is a good thing. Thanks Buckeyeboy...I think.

Canned. Thanks tbone_. Very dark brown to the colour, huge brown cramy/foamy head. Aroma is very sweet (a bit like perfumed soap), with also chocolate, coffee in it. Maybe some weak notes of roast too. Flavour is also very sweet malty, with some burnt notes. A week old black coffee in finish and aftertaste. Quite oily palate. Different stout, but still not crap.

Typical Guinness outlook: opaque black, big cloudy expresso head, lace. Roasted, a bit sweet aroma. Medium to full bodied. Smooth mouthfeel. Quite alcoholic bitter flavor with burnt coffee beans. Long bitter aftertaste.

Dark golden color, not much of head. Aroma of crisp lemonade. Taste is sugary lemony lemonade - like Sprite. Sweet. No beer found here.

Can, alc. 4.5% (brewed 27 Jan 2006), brewed by Asia-Pacific Breweries
Pale golden color, creamy white head. Maize/rice -malty nose, cardboard like. Very light and watery. Only some distant bitterness in the finish. Malaysia Peninsular’s version of Bud.

Very dark brown color, baked cake, prunes and dark cherries in the nose. It started to remind me of FES Dominca, but didn’t quit have the depth. The mouth is moderately bitter with dark chocolates, cake, whisky and prunes. The finish is nice and hoppy with some dark chocolate. Similar to the Dominica FES, but not quit there.

Cambodian version, November 2004: Straw colour. Lightly malty palate with a slight hint of grassiness. Fairly bland. Vague hints of malt in the finish. 2-1-2-1-4 = 1.0

Malaysian version, October 2009: Straw colour. No head. Aroma is mostly acetaldehyde, maybe some graininess. Bland taste is watery with a little bit of graininess. Quick drinking, low bitterness. Little to recommend but little to offend. Same score.

In 2009, in KL, I generally found Malaysian Guinness to be an even-handed, roasty, quality FES. Later, in Cambodia, this beer is also widely available but I found it quite variable, with an overdose of fruitiness. The same carried through in Hong Kong (same batch). I finally found one in HK that tasted like it did in KL and it was an old batch. So my sense is that there was a batch that really got away from the brewers and they put it out anyway, maybe just for export.

Original rating, 2004.Malaysian version, canned, Bangkok
Dark golden brown colour. Rich, chewy, slightly nutty character. Fairly strong molasses note on this one. Stickier, less acidic than the Singapore version - the acidity is limited to the roast barley...I detect no brett. Slight fruitiness (lime, melon) is buried underneath of the chewy malt and roast onslaught. A more straightforward, but still solid, FES. Ar 7 Ap 4 Fl 8 P 4 O 15 = 3.8
