Description
Our quest for truly great Scottish beer started in 2006 when our brewpub was opened. Ever since then, we have been brewing the finest artisan lagers and wheat beers in the UK. We brew all of our beers in strict accordance with the Reinheitsgebot, the German Purity Law of 1516, which we believe is simply the best way to make great beer.

WEST, under the leadership of Bavarian-born Petra Wetzel, is the only UK brewery to officially adhere to the Reinheitsgebot, merging centuries of traditional practice with state-of-the-art equipment. Our German roots are firmly planted in Glasgow and our company ethos can best be summed up as ‘Glaswegian Heart. German Head’.

Can from Lidl or Aldi maybe? It pours hazy orangey - deep gold with a medium fluffy white head. The aroma is fresh, juicy, fragrant, has a certain soapiness/fairy liquid character, zesty, tangy blood orange orange and marmalade sandwiches. The taste is crispy, dry, snappy, juicy, tangy citrus character, bright blood orange character, tangerine, pink grapefruit, orange marmalade sandwiches, pithy, zesty, fanta, straw and a touch of grain with a juicy finish. Light body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Nice juicy number, just a shame about that soapy aroma. Not bad anyhow.

Tap at West. Darkest brown to black, creamy tanned head. Roast, cocoa, pleasant sweetness, medium body, creamy sparkling. Sweetness balanced well by roast bitterness and herbal notes.

Tap at West. Golden, looks undercarbonated, offwhite lace. Lightly moppy entry, heavy on the bittering hops, medium light dry metallic mouthfeel. Allright, balance not quite there.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from SOAR-EAT17. Pours clear yellow-gold with a small, creamy white topping. Light sweet flavour with notes of semi-ripe lemon, a hint of citric tang, whispers of pale malts. Light bodied with average carbonation. Fairly clean finish, more mild lemony notes, pale bread. Tasty and highly drinkable.
