Description
The brewery was founded in 2005 by four home brewers who wanted to make high quality beers. In 2016 two of the original founders retired, and the brewery is today owned by a constellation of the two remaining founders, some employees at the brewery and three other Norwegian craft breweries.
Haandbryggeriet currently has 10 employees all participating in developing new ground breaking beers and recipes.
The brewery has a wide selection ranging from classic and traditional beers to new and innovative brews and hybrid beer styles. Sometimes brewed with local and Nordic ingredients such as cherries, sea buckthorn, raspberries, and lingonberries. Haandbryggeriet has since 2005 also made high quality sours and barrel aged beers such as porters and Christmas beers.

Can, huge thanks djoeye. Shared with Hrabren and Ogi. Pitch black body, off-white head. Heavy, slightly oxidized aroma, orange liqueur and brown sugar. Lean, dry taste, roasty taste, nutty, vague orange notes, heaps of roastiness really. Huge bitterness as well. It's tasty in a way, but quite heavy-handed and rough, even a bit of alcohol that's kinda borderline for 8.5% but still acceptable. Not bad, but... from HB I expect more.

I bought a 33 cl can at Vinmonopolet Bergen last month and am ready for a sampling. Using a tulip glass this late afternoon I flip the tab and pour. It shows a semi-hazy bright gold body topped by a sparse cover of thoroughly white foam. A pleasant nose, I determine peach, grain, straw, malt and meadow. The drink follows that course. More towards apricot if I am picking a yellow fruit, a firm malt backbone, dough, paper and a spot of spiciness. More sweetness than bitterness but there are both. A moderate density, I like that in a tripel. This is a decent representation of the style which is one of my favorites.

(Draft at Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 20 Dec 2025) Brownish black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted, slightly smoky nose with coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice and peat. Malty, roasted, slightly smoky taste with notes of chocolate, liquorice, dark bread, peat and a mild roasty bitterness in a vinous and warming finish. Full body, quite sweet. On the sweet side, but rich and warming. Very nice.

Can. Color: Hazy pale golden, frothy white head. Aroma: Banana, wheat malt, spicy hints. Taste: Banana, yeasty, wheat malt, spicy hop backbone. Dry-ish bittery finish. Medium body, just below average carbonation. Moderate to over moderate sweet and bitter. Starting more to the sweetish and malty side, finishing more to the bitter hoppy side.
