A hazy dark orange beer with a bubbly off-white head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of flowers, but also light notes of honey. The flavor is very flowery and again combined with notes of honey, leading to a dry end. Thanks Jeppe for sharing.

Bottled. #28, 2006 vintage. Hazy dark orange beer with a medium, beige head. Mild aroma of citric fruits and hops. Flavor is much the same, with some spicyness from the hops. Some yeast and orange-peel notes. Long, mild piney bitterness at the end. I will have to save a bottle for a later occasion, as this one was a little bit too fresh. (6-3-6-3-13-3.1) (060409)
Rerate, 2007 vintage: Unclear, golden pour with some beige head. Hops, pine, citrus, malt and sweetness in the aroma. The flavor is nice and hoppy as well, nicely balanced with a malty sweetness. Full body. Long malty finish with pine and orange to accomplish it. A better brew than the 2006 version, even though the 2006 version matured nicely, and was better after a year of cellaring. Rating: 6-4-7-4-15-3.6. (070430)
Bottle. #124, 2008 vintage. It pours an almost clear, dark golden body under a nice, dense, beige head. Sweetish and slightly roasted nose with nice spices, some alcohol notes, fruityness and a little yeasty touch. Sweet on the palate, full-bodied and warming, with fruityness and a nice spicy touch. Finishes with a fine bitterness. Really pleasant, and well suited for a day in the Easter sun. (081229)

Rerate, 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger, batch #126. Brewed Jan. 08, BB Jan. 10. ABV is 6%. Cloudy orangey brown colour, big off-white head with an orangey hue. Very nice aroma of spices (cloves and coriander?), citrus (oranges) and hops, notes of oak too. The flavour is sweet and fruity, fairly malty and distinctly spicy, with oak and a hoppy bitterness in the finish. Good beer, will probably mature well.
Original rating: 500 ml bottle, batch #28. Very cloudy brownish colour, moderate but lasting off-white head. Pleasant aroma of aromatic hops, hints of cider apples and leather, even some barnyard. Flavour has some malty and brown sugar sweetness, but also a distinct peppery and resinous bitterness. Peppery mouthfeel. Long bitter aftertaste. Will probably improve with age.

500 ml bottle, batch #19. New recipe, somewhat different from the 2005 "trial version" served at the RBESG 2005. Black colour (= very dark ruby when held to the light), rich and creamy tan head. Nice roasty aroma, notes of dark chocolate, leather and woodwork too. Flavour of roast malts, coffee and chocolate. Not as fruity as expected, but still a nice beer.
Earlier Rating: 8/18/2005 Total Score: 3.9
Bottle conditioned, RBESG 2005, Grand Tasting (courtesy of the brewery). Lightly roasty aroma with notes of coffee and dark chocolate, hints of dried fruits. Flavour is fairly dry with a roast malts base, notes of coffee. Moderate carbonation. Nice.

500ml bottle from Oslo City Vinmonopolet. Batch 17 (bb. Oct.2007). Hazy orange brown. Short lived head. Slightly carbonated. Intense, but short mouthfeel. Fruity with lemon, orange and yeast in flavour. Hoppy and malty flatness in a short ending. The second glass with the sediments looked like cafe latte (01042006).
Earlier Rating: 3/25/2006 Total Score: 3
500ml bottle, batch 4, bb. autumn 07. Russet colour, but rather clear body. Starts with a good white head, fully diminishing after a short while. Aromatic with tones of yeast. Crispated. Medium body. Complex bitter flavour. Notes of caramel, hops, and malt. Not a historic style of IPA, but it’s a pity that the beer has retired.

Bottled at Lorry, #2. Very dark brown beer with a large beige head leaving nice lacings. Lightly sour aroma with roastiness and chocolate. The flavor has lots of coffee and roastiness and with caramel and chocolate. Dry and slightly bitter finish. A nice beer, but not their best version of a porter. (5-4-6-4-13-3.2) (060328)
Earlier Rating: 3/21/2006 Total Score: 3.6
Bottled. (#18) Dark brown, almost black beer with a small, brown head. Lovely aroma of coffee, roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor has the same elements, and in addition theres a slight fruitiness to it. A slight sourness leads to a dry, bitter finish with roastiness. This is the newest version of the beer, and the most appropriate rating. (060321)

Bottled 500ml. Nice dark brown body with gentle red/brown head. Aroma is light burnt with a hint of vanilla and coffee. Sweet flavor with a nice balanced bitter-hops and some acetic feeling in the background. Medium to full body, with oily texture. Rated as a 4-month aged beer as the brewers felt that Christmas time was a bit to early for this beer. I also tasted this beer in November and I have to say I agree. The beer feel more harmonic with a longer aftertaste. The short aftertaste in November was the only really negative aspect with this beer first time I tasted it.

500ml bottle. Batch no.18 (Nov.05, BB:Nov.07).Unpasteurized, not filtered. Dusty dark brown gown. Aroma with lots of roastiness. Beige, lasting head. Corny. Taste of dark chocolate, burnt malt and black coffee. Very maltiness finish. The beer is too young and will certainly improve its features after a while. I keep a bottle in the cellar for re-rating early next year.

During a weekend in late March I decided to try some of the beers from the Norwegian brewery Haandbryggeriet. A porter, a weissbier and an IPA were available. Weizen on 500ml bottle. Batch 1, bb. autumn 2006. Opens with a good shot followed by some smoke. Golden and very clear (a bit unusual appearance.for a wheat beer). And the sediments stay in the bottom. Fading foam disappearing completely. A fresh smell of fruit. Medium mouthful, but too much carboned. Sweet citrus flavour with light hints of acid. Perhaps a bit too sweet. Yeasty ending. --- Beer merged from original tick of Bavaria on 21 Sep 2009 at 15:30 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 5 | Flavor - 5 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6.5. Original review text: 500ml bottle from Centra, Colosseum Park, Oslo. Golden-amber body colour. Frothy, white foam, slowly fading. Smell of sweet fruits joined by a herbal and spicy touch. Flavour with wheat, dark spices and acidity from the yeast that works pretty well together. Dry, citric bitter to the ending. Interesting weissbier without the usual banana sweetness. Pairs very well with shrimps (shared with Finn at Elsas in Skibotn, 28.08.2009).
