Established in 2005, Jackie O’s Brewery has evolved over the years to include an experimental brewpub, Public House restaurant, Production Brewery & Taproom, Bake Shop and the Barrel Ridge Farm – all of which are located in Athens, Ohio / Southeastern, Ohio. Specializing in brewing techniques that revive traditional methods, we also incorporate contemporary elements and influences. We strive to brew one of the most diverse beer portfolios in the country, with a detailed and unique focus on barrel & wood aged beers, wild ales, and blending.

Boulder Sourfest ’10 - this was one of the first beers I ran to try, because I was excited to try something from this brewer - sadly, it was a huge disappointment - tasted like bile, rotten fruit, fruit pits, mold, blue cheese funk, some damp oak - couldn’t really detect any wine character - hmmm...

Cheers to Markwise for bringing another Jackie-O growler. pours dark brown, off-white head. Aroma chocolate malts, raspberry tartness and vanilla beans. Flavor, a mix between the mild tartness of raspberries and mild vanilla sweetness. Palate is a mix of the chocolate flavors, grainy mouthfeel and roast coupled with the perfect blend of the vanilla beans and mild tartness of the berries make for a rather unique experience. Interesting beer, this brewery has the talent of bringing out phenomenal beers. When you think you had tried everything, Jackie-Os just keeps brewing something unique.

22 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden orange with a small off-white head. Aroma is dry fruity and mild citric raspberry. Sweet and citric raspberry flavoured. Smooth and fruity, light caramelish note. citric and dry finish with a light raspberry fruity lingering touch.

22 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is dark malty, slight butterish and alcohol. Sweet and alcohol dense malty, light roasted. Dry and malty flavoured finish with a distinct alcohol note. Spiced and dry roasted finish.

12/2/2009 Bottle No. 11/156 via a trade with St.Fun. Pours with a minimal head and a brown body. Aroma of dirt, caramel, cinnamon, earth, barrel, vanilla, spice, alcohol, wood and coconut. Taste is cinnamon sugar cookie, wood, light sourness and mexican rice pudding. Light bubbles.

2009 batch bottle number 9/72 via a trade with StFun. Pours with a minimal head and a hazy brown body. Aroma of pecans, mothballs, wood, earth, dirt, caramel and tobacco. Also a note of a chocolate filled with cherry liquor. Taste is vanilla, cherry, chocolate, wood and caramel. Syrupy mouthfeel and light bubbles. A unique scotch ale to say the least. On tap at O’Houleys (now Jackie O’s). Pours a reddish/pinkish light brown. Taste is wheat and raspberries. Taste is enjoyable and even many of the ladies will enjoy this one.

Draft at O’Houleys (now Jackie O’s) at the time. Pours an light amber color. Taste is nice erbal floral malt with a hint of sourness.

Bottle 50/156 thanks to a trade with St.Fun. Pours with a brown body and a minimal head, but the body stains the glass. Aroma of cabernet wine, oak, spiciness, fudge/chocolate, earthy, light sourness, nutshells and vanilla. Taste is sour, wet wood, a bit thin, vanilla, raspberry and cinnamon. Thin body, yet a creamy mouthfeel. Tannic.

Another great one thanks to markwise. Pours clear mahogany with copper edges and brief tan head. The aroma is sweet rich molasses, black strap molasses, chocolate, coffee, burnt malts and a touch of caramel. The taste is a bit thin but it’s also rich with molasses, coffee, caramel, burnt malts and some malt roastiness. This is very nice and ends with the addition of a touch of dry roastiness.
