Description
Labatt has deep roots in Canada stemming from its founder John Kinder. In 1847, a little more than a decade after arriving in London, Ontario from Ireland, John Kinder Labatt purchased London's Simcoe Street brewery in partnership with Samuel Eccles and by 1855 had become the brewery's sole proprietor. The brewery was later renamed John Labatt's Brewery, marking the beginning of one of Canada's largest and most successful companies.
In 1995, it was purchased by Belgian brewer Interbrew. Labatt is now part of the new company, Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev).

12oz bottle. Surprised to see I had never rated this one. Ruby black, some light shines through the corners. Thinnish, patchy beige head. Dry, bittersweet chocolate aroma, some mild dark fruit. Roasty burnt chocolate tones. Some sugary Caribbean style lactic oatmeal tones. Faint pungency. I suspect the bottle is a little old, or the recipe and process are different. I remember really enjoying this beer 10 years ago, but I’m not so impressed with the current adaption

Bottled (during the 10th anniversary of 2Pac on RateBeer). Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is grains, hay, some bready malts and mild herbal and earthy notes. Flavour is being rather much the same. Quite standard pale lager. Hurts nobody, but also will not make you feel any special.

Originally rated September 2005. I remember Labatt Blue tasting like piss, the last time I tried it, many, many years ago. Now, I am trying it again because I eventually have to review it... and it also comes in a Cool2Go 473ml can that is insulated to keep the beer colder, longer. Anyways, had to try it and have one of those cans for the collection. The beer pours a bright golden yellow colour with a medium head, retention and carbonation. The scent is hoppy with some sweet malt in the background. The taste start off bitter and goes into a grain malt finish. The bitterness always stays in the back and some slight corn is detected. Really not as bad as I rememered it, actually, nothing real bad about it. Nothing like Euro Pils (no grass detected), but this Canadian pilsener is nice, crisp and refreshing.

Originally rated September 2005. This is what I drink when I go to my grand-parents place on Christmas day. They buy it every year in bottles, and the stuff is not that bad... usually (specially when driving). Now, I am sampling this one in a can. Colour is pale gold and white fizzy head dissapears rather quickly. The nose is not bad, with some grain malt. I remember this one tasting much better from the bottle. Now, not much happening. Slight malt with lots of water. Watery mouthfeel, of course. Much prefered in a bottle and slight notch better than Busch Light.

Originally rated September 2005. Bought a 40 oz. bottle of this stuff as it came cheaper than buying the big can. This is the stuff my girlfriend would drink at bars when she was young, to get a kick faster and on the affordable side. Glad she liked it, so she could help me with this big bottle. Pours a golden pale yellow colour with a nice white foamy head. Retention is decent, but no lacing is left at all. The nose is composed of sweet malt for the biggest part and some bitter hop thrown in there. Medium bodied brew. The taste starts off slightly bitter, then goes sweet in the middle to then end on a grainy finish. The aftertaste is mildly dry and the grain lingers for a while. Very nice and smooth, without any taste of alcohol at any time. Recommended if you like the grain malt, a buzz and a stronger lager without a burn.

Originally rated October 2005. Bought this one in a single can at a convenient store in Montreal. Comes in a very nice simple designed 355mL can, which is all silver with blue writting and huge barcodes. Pours a golden honey colour with a big white foamy head, composed of tiny bubbles. The lacing left is very good, all over. Retention is pretty damn good too. Lively carbonation is medium in bubble size. The scent is malty with touches of herbs. After breathing, alcohol and corn comes out. Lightly-bodied mouthfeel. The taste starts off with a mix of honey and malt to then finish smoothly with some light hop and corn. Kind of dry finish with alcohol very well hidden. Gets the job done though.

Bouteille 341ml.

Originally rated October 2005. This Labatt malt liquor pours a pale golden colour from its 950mL can. Patchy lacing, foamy head. Loads of alcohol in the nose. Pretty smooth taste though. Mild sweetness with a corn finish. I still prefer the Mongoose, but this is not bad malt liquor.
