Description
Labatt has deep roots in Canada stemming from its founder John Kinder. In 1847, a little more than a decade after arriving in London, Ontario from Ireland, John Kinder Labatt purchased London's Simcoe Street brewery in partnership with Samuel Eccles and by 1855 had become the brewery's sole proprietor. The brewery was later renamed John Labatt's Brewery, marking the beginning of one of Canada's largest and most successful companies.

In 1995, it was purchased by Belgian brewer Interbrew. Labatt is now part of the new company, Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev).

Bottle. Blackish beer with a big beige head. Roasty aroma along with caramel and coffee. Slightly acrid. Roasty flavor, lots of malt. Some sourness.

2005 bottle that I picked up in Montreal based on the Montreal crew’s recommendation. Weak, watery and transparent brown color, no head. Aroma: Wow, it’s moments like this that you live for. . .Pure vegetables, tin, dusty yeast and kind of like licking a big piece of cold metal. But the vegetables definitely take front seat. Cucumber, zuchhini and I don’t even know what else. This is like labbatt blue, only not even that good, with brown coloring added, and a little bit of table sugar added as well. Horrible veggies taste, zesty cardboard and more DMS than you would believe possible. Weak, syrupy/watery body. Should be renamed Labatt Vegetable. Cheers!

Swillfest ’05
Because you can’t have a swillfest without Labatt’s...straw colour; fruity, spicy aroma; a little honeyish. A higher breed of macrobrew.

Decided to give this one a shot because of a $1.00 price tag for a single. I guess I got my money’s worth. Pours a clear golden color with mild bubbles. Medium thin white head and minimal lacing. The aroma is vaguely sweet with nothing really distinguishing itself. Light-bodied with a pretty bland flavor of mild hops and sweet corn. Luckily nothing offensive in there. The finish is crisp, dry and pretty much flavorless aside from the faintest hops bitterness. All said, it’s a Labatt by any other name.

Dark mahogany colour with a lasting light brown head. Light aroma of toast, cheap coffee and macro ale - adjuncts, quick & dirty esters (think Alexander Keith’s). Reasonably full body, slight creaminess. Light roast flavour, with hints of milk chocolate. Too much carbonation - not only detracts from the presentation but amplifies the astringent roast finish to unpleasant effect.

Poured a pitch-black color ale with very little head or carbonation. Aroma is quite sweet with some trace of chocolate also noticeable. Taste is quite enjoyable at first with sweet chocolate being easily detectable. The only problem here is that there is nothing else thereafter: no bitterness or roastiness. Also, after a couple of sip, the sweetness becomes overwhelming, a bit too much of artificial flavour I believe. Anyway, better then most products Labatt brews.

Bottle: Poured a golden color ale with almost no head. Aroma is very weak, almost non-existent. Taste is a mix between some sweet malt and light bitterness. Better then most crap that Labatt produce but this is still macro beer without taste.

My "My beers average" was getting too high so I wanted to rate this. . . .
Kidding aside, this was foul. The funny thing about these beers is that you would think them to taste like nothing, just water right? But they surprise you and have a disgustingly sweet stale corn syrup flavor, and I taste no hops. I can’t believe they even use the word hops in the description. Light gold, no aroma, watery body, cheap syrupy sweetness. Pure garbage.

2004 bottle. Wow. Really excited for this one. . . but it’s all my friend had, so I figured I’d give it a whirl. Weak light gold, yellow color, very bubbly and clear with a light white head. Aroma of water, light grains. Flavor starts out with maybe what could be called a brief, crisp bite of hops, but then it quickly runs in to a heavy dose of sour tasting adjunct flavor. Muddled, cardboard and wet wool finish, tons of water and too much carbonation, almost stinging from the amount of artificial C02 in here.

Part of the Labatt 28-bottle "party pack" of 11.5(?)oz bottles. Pours a pale golden color with a thin white head and very little lacing. Light hops aroma and nothing more. Light-bodied and virtually flavorless, which I guess is the goal of any low-carb beer. Very light hops here and there but this beer comes closer to soda water than just about any I have had. The finish is bubbly and slightly metallic. A worthless beer.
