Description
In 2007, the NV Brasserie Caulier was declared bankrupt. The Caulier brand name came into the hands of the beer company Bien-Être Développement, headed by the entrepreneur Eric Coppieters, which subsequently changed its name to Caulier Développement.

In 2012, he opened a new chapter in the long history of exceptional craft beers by vowing to deliver locally brewed craft beers, to sell them within 28 weeks of bottling through 28 gastro pubs and to deliver them within a 28 minute radius. This way our consumers and customers would receive the beer at peak flavour.

In 2013 the name was changed into Caulier Sugar Free. In 2020 - after a hefty capital investment - the name of the company was changed into Brasserie 28, which is more in line with the ambitious plans of Coppieters (like establishing of a new brewery in Brussels).

For the time being the beers are brewed at the Proefbrouwerij.

Bottled. Rubyish copper colour with a mediumsized foamy off-white head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is berries, some yeast, mild tartness, wood and some slight toffeeish tones too. A very kind sour/wild beer, as it's more sweet than sour/tart.

Bottled (from Alko Keskusta, Vaasa). Slightly hazy orangeish golden colour with a small white head. When cold aroma is alcohol and some grains, when warm it gets more fruity and slight sweetness to it as well. Flavour when cold is a bunch of alcohol, some fruits and mild grains, when warm it smoothens up and even shows a bit of yeasty notes to the rather smooth sweetness, even though alcohol is very evident.

33cl bottle. Pours pale gold, medium transparent, with fine white foam. Aroma is definitely Belgiany, saison-like, cereal and spices. Body and carbonation are average. Taste is moderate in both sweetness and bitterness, very slightly acidic. Final is fairly long and spiced.
