Description
The Gueuzerie Tilquin began operations in February 2009. It was 12 years that a new gueuze-producer had emerged in Brabant (the previous was Geuzestekerij De Cam in Gooik, which began in 1997).

The Gueuzerie Tilquin is the first gueuze blendery in Wallonia. The company is located in Bierghes (Rebecq), 200 meters from the linguistic border, and is directed by Pierre Tilquin. Pierre is bio-engineer and holder of a PhD in statistical genetics. He then followed an intensive course in brewing science in Leuven, and he had his experience at the brewery Huyghe (Melle), 3 Fonteinen (Beersel) and Cantillon (Anderlecht).

On tap at Delirium Café pouring up murky amber with copper hues and thin white head. The aroma has nice crisp yet mild fruit, tartness, some pleasing funkiness and an inviting earthy mold that really pulls this together. The taste is basically the same with tart fresh fruitiness of peach, apricot, and green apple as well as some tart yeastiness. To midway and on to the finish it picks up a sense of wild yeast depth with faint funk in tow. Solid refreshing brew.

Zythos Bierfestival 2012, Leuven, Belgium. It pours clear copper with gold edges and virtually no head at all. The aroma offers up musty smooth fruity funk and then some nice sweaty sourness. All said these are rather smooth and modest notes but yet have plenty of depth. The taste begins with a flash of sweetness and quickly moving into soured citrus like notes and then tartness and yeasty funkiness. Very nice Faro with just subtle sweetness mixing with the funky and tart and sour notes create some harmonious balance. Right on!

RBESG August 2011, grand tasting highlight (+ re-rates). Cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma of grapefruit, wood, funk, mango, apricot and pineapple. Tart fruity flavour with bitter grapefruit and a hint of honey. Classic geuze, and very tasty.

Granny smith apples, sharp cheddar, dank basement nose. Hazy amber, thick head with little retention. Very tart limey malt. Finishes with jolly rancher green apple, but not so sweet. Palatably tart, good flavor. Outstanding! A great compliment to country (salt cured and smoked) ham.

C&C 325 from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours very hazy orange tinged gold with a slight off-white head. Sweat sox aroma. Med body. Sour, citrus and a bit of barnyard. Very astringent. Finishes almost like citrus sweet until the sour kicks back in. Extremely drinkable. Either I’m getting more sophisticated, or this is gueuze for beginners.

Bottled. An unclear golden beer with a thin white head. The aroma has notes of brettanomyces, horseblanket, wheat, and lemons. The flavor is acidic with notes of wood, brettanomyces, malt, wheat, lemons, and horseblanket, leading to a tart finish. Thanks joergen for sharing.

Bottle 37,5 cl. Courtesy of joergen. Pours a cloudy opaque golden with a tiny off-white head. Tart and heavy dirty barnyard in the nose. Medium body, a little initial fruitiness but then dry and sulphurous barnyard - lots of fart here. A very decent, straight and authentic Gueuze. 141111

375 ml bottle bought @ Systembolaget and consumed on November 12. Pours hazy orange with a white head that dissipates while leaving no trace on the glass. Smell is sour and complex with hay, leather, grapefruit, grass and slight mineral/metallic hints. Taste is dry and sour and full-bodied with hay, leather, lemon, grapefruit and funk. Finish is dry and slightly sour with a barnyard feel to it. Very good and quite nice to see a new brand of oude gueuze!
