Description
Exit Brewing fell from the minds of two Melbournians, who decided to exit their corporate I.T. jobs and follow their passion for brewing beer. Now the family-owned business is led by founder and brewer, Grum Knight, and offers an iconic core range that keeps true to the founding principles of quality and honesty. Our story began with the release of a Saison farmhouse ale back in 2014. Since then, we have added a few more of our favourite styles including a bold yet balanced Pale Ale, the complex American-style AIBA trophy winning Amber Ale, the rich smooth AIBA trophy winning Milk Stout and a hoppy West Coast-style IPA. These year-round releases are complemented by our limited release program that pays homage to our original numbered batches. We’re a fully independent brewery located in Melbourne’s South East, with a small but mighty team of incredible people who continually strive to keep ‘craft’ at the heart of what we do.

Another unnumbered one which means it’s a permanent beer and, it seems, different from #005. Bottle, with a clear bottled on date (26/2), thanks. Clear dark amber with a large off-white head that lasts well. Aroma of singed toffee, toast, chocolate, wafty tropical and stone fruit notes. 7+ The prominence of those things is immediately reversed upon a sip - the hops are in the driver’s seat and the fat malty things are a bit obscured. Tropical and some stone fruit, some pepper, bitter oranges.

Bottle. Unnumbered and the first of their core range, apparently. Golden amber with a white head. Aroma of kumquats, grapefruit, pine, hay. Oily, moderate carbonation. Some light malty sweetness that doesn’t do much. Plenty of citrus and some under-ripe tropical notes kept well in check with pine and fairly strong bitterness. A touch of diesel. Not a refined or particularly original beer, but hops and a bit of grunt is OK too.

Bottle. Pale amber, 4 inches of loose white head. Passionfruit, melons and mandarins, light bread. 6+ Light bodied. High carbonation, but not as high as it first looked to be. Sweet with tropical and citrus fruit. A bit of pine and pepper creep in at the reasonably bitter finish. Even with that it’s getting towards a bit fruit punchy for me, but it’s certainly vibrantly hopped. Has a lot going for it for 3.5%.

Pours hazy amber with a small head.Nose shows banana, Belgian yeast characters, soft bready wheat-like notes.Very similar flavours. More yeast-derived characters that I’d associate with a Belgian yeast. Some soft sweet malt with more wheat-like aspects.
