Description
Exit Brewing fell from the minds of two Melbournians, who decided to exit their corporate I.T. jobs and follow their passion for brewing beer. Now the family-owned business is led by founder and brewer, Grum Knight, and offers an iconic core range that keeps true to the founding principles of quality and honesty. Our story began with the release of a Saison farmhouse ale back in 2014. Since then, we have added a few more of our favourite styles including a bold yet balanced Pale Ale, the complex American-style AIBA trophy winning Amber Ale, the rich smooth AIBA trophy winning Milk Stout and a hoppy West Coast-style IPA. These year-round releases are complemented by our limited release program that pays homage to our original numbered batches. We’re a fully independent brewery located in Melbourne’s South East, with a small but mighty team of incredible people who continually strive to keep ‘craft’ at the heart of what we do.

Can. Hazy golden. Citrus nose. Usual juicy mouthfeel. Manged to be all citrussy but with some welcome real bitterness to bring this back into the beer world in a very good way.

From a 375ml can on 12/3/2019. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a small head. Has a dank, fruity, slightly spicy nose. Tastes of bready malt, mango and orange, some mint, and finishes with an assertive, herbal hop bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. A tasty, more bitter than usual example of the style.

Can. Gold with an inch of white head. Aroma of mandarin, passionfruit, light biscuit, spices. Tastes along those lines too, with very light malt presence. Dryish with white pepper becoming more prominent at the fairly bitter finish. Fresh and vibrant.

From a 375ml can on 15/1/2019. Pours a fairly clear deep golden with a smallish head. The nose has quite a bit of caramel, along with some unusual green apple notes. In the mouth, it's quite amlt driven with caramel and toffee most prominent. So much so that it has a bit of barley wine about it. There's some fruit sweetness in there as well, along with some big aggressive hops, giving the beer some real punch. The texture is slightly syrupy and the carbonation moderate. An excellent, full on take on the style. Adds to the already decent number of genuinely impressive IIPAs being produced by Aussie brewers. Well done Exit.

mahogany color. Big Smokey nose, unlike I’ve ever smelled before in a scotch ale, with nice malty sweetness in the background with cherries and caramel. Excellent nose. Off sweet Smokey, peaty, caramel, apples, cherries and very malty. Dry Smokey finish with cherries. Nice stuff

On tap at Hart Pub in Sydney. Pours a murky amber color with frothy white head. Salt taffy candy, peaches, apricots and a bit of mint in the nose. Pretty interesting. Medium body with lots of salt taffy notes in the mouth, tons of pine, prickly hops, apricots and citrus notes. Alcohol well hidden. Off sweet palate. Wow, this is a little gem. Well balanced and modest aggressive bitterness. It’s really hitting the right notes. The piney and salt water taffy notes just linger. Excellent

375ml can into schooner glass. Poured at outside temperature (11 degrees Celsius in Sydney tonight). Not quite black beer with large crown of tan-coloured foam on top. Aroma of cocoa and sweet milk coffee. Quite effervescent with a largely coffee finish. Not really getting any vanilla or chocolate, just coffee bitterness. Another sweet stout that, for me, is nowhere near sweet enough. It's all coffee.

Bottle. Small tan head on a black beer. Aroma of roast and mocha, vanilla, licorice. Not all that sweet with mocha and a fair bit of licorice. Bitterness and some cardamon as well as vanilla creep up. Solid.

It's a lovely, subtle mix of flavours, including grapefruit, tangerine, apricot, lemon, biscuit and nougat. It hides its alcohol brilliantly, and while there's no wow factor it's a beautifully made beer.
