Description
Exit Brewing fell from the minds of two Melbournians, who decided to exit their corporate I.T. jobs and follow their passion for brewing beer. Now the family-owned business is led by founder and brewer, Grum Knight, and offers an iconic core range that keeps true to the founding principles of quality and honesty. Our story began with the release of a Saison farmhouse ale back in 2014. Since then, we have added a few more of our favourite styles including a bold yet balanced Pale Ale, the complex American-style AIBA trophy winning Amber Ale, the rich smooth AIBA trophy winning Milk Stout and a hoppy West Coast-style IPA. These year-round releases are complemented by our limited release program that pays homage to our original numbered batches. We’re a fully independent brewery located in Melbourne’s South East, with a small but mighty team of incredible people who continually strive to keep ‘craft’ at the heart of what we do.

You might call it a classic new world saison, with plenty of citrus blending with more traditionally saison characteristics. There's loads of pepper, plus lemon, stone fruit, melon, straw and honey, and it hides its alcohol brilliantly, with the exception of a light fire at the back of the throat. The only drawback is a slight aspirin aftertaste.

On tap at Catfish, Fitzroy. Some caramel and malt notes. Pours a thin brown, with no real head. This is very undercarbonated and thin in the mouth. The salted caramel is understated, and what remains is just an undernourished, somewhat bready ale. I had high hopes. Did get slightly better as it warmed.

500ml bottle. Black as coal. Thick and creamy. Luscious chocolate nose with hints of vanilla. Very well-rounded effort with very sbtle coffee notes, but good balance of choc and vanilla. They've shown restraint here in terms of the "imperial" ramp up.
