Description
Winterlong Brewing Co. was a dream that started in the summer of 2014.

Marko and Meghan Marjanovic had been homebrewing for 10 years, and finally decided to take the risk and start a brewery. They secured a lease, applied for a licence, and ordered brewing equipment during the fall and winter of 2014.

Our philosophy is simple: we brew the beer we want to drink.

Winterlong Brewing Co. is a small, craft brewery. We focus on creating beer that is bold in flavour. Our beer is unfiltered in order to maximize flavour and aroma.

Re-rate: Poured from 473mL can (2023 vintage). Black with light tan head. Mild fruitiness, roast, sweet yet dry. Not what I would associate with a russian imperial stout, but it's decent. (7/4/8/4/15=3.8) Nov 05, 2020 (8/4/7/3/15=3.7): Poured from 750mL bottle (2018 vintage). Black with dark beige head. Alcohol, molasses, fudge, medium roast. Not fully cohesive flavours, alcohol is a little bit heavy, but still quite decent.

650mL bottle, pours black with a small brown head. Nose is rather chalky, with medium roasted malt, dry fudge, and a touch of cocoa. Flavour is somewhat chalky, with roasted malt, alcohol, chalkiness and dry fudge. Chewy and chalky, with lots of alcohol. Not the most complex or refined, but it's tasty enough.

Black. Thick head. There's a lot of deep fruitiness on the nose, with a soft sweet chocolate note. Rich, with a stinging alcohol, big fruity depths, molasses, fruitcake, muscular alcohol finish. Really tasty.

The deviate - Semisweet chocolate and a touch of booze. Jet brown with a decent beige head. Bitter chocolate with a long sweetish finish. Weird.

Poured from 650mL bottle. Black with dissipating tan head. Belgian yeast, roasted malt, candied sugar, a bit of an odd mix. I'm not sold.

650mL bottle, pours black with a medium light brown head. Nose brings out candied sugar, roasred malt, and some Belgian yeast. Flavour is quite yeasty, with candied sugar, Belgian yeast, medium roasted malt, and a grainy mouthfeel. Grainy and well-made. Good stuff.

650ml bottle at Erik's. Pours a hazy dirty golden with a white head. Aroma is very fruity with butter scotch and barrel notes. Similar taste. Very lean and smooth body, though.

Bottle - Butterscotch and some barrel boozy notes. Cloudy gold with a decent white head. Sweet, bready, butterscotch and apricot. Typical, but I’m not a fan.

This is a really dull amber. The aroma is all about the sticky phenols and overly vanilla bourbon notes. On the palate, very sweet, with a bunch of sweet candy notes, lots of wood and alcohol. The base beer is clearly too sweet, and then adding a sweet finish on top of that, it's pretty intensely sweet, and not well-balanced.

650mL bottle, pours a cloudy dark orange with a small off-white head. Aroma is very floral and estery, with candied sugar, estery notes, and some oak barrel notes. Flavour is boozy and barrel-heavy, with lots of estery notes, candied sugar, and Belgian yeast. Boozy, sweet, and totally inauthentic. I appreciate the attempt, but this just isn't on the mark.
