Description
Winterlong Brewing Co. was a dream that started in the summer of 2014.
Marko and Meghan Marjanovic had been homebrewing for 10 years, and finally decided to take the risk and start a brewery. They secured a lease, applied for a licence, and ordered brewing equipment during the fall and winter of 2014.
Our philosophy is simple: we brew the beer we want to drink.
Winterlong Brewing Co. is a small, craft brewery. We focus on creating beer that is bold in flavour. Our beer is unfiltered in order to maximize flavour and aroma.

Hazy amber-brown, with a thick head. This one grabs you with an anglo-bw aroma full of dried fruits and medium-dark sugars. Soft body, sultanas, kayısı, slowly unfolding bourbon dropping vanillins on the tongue, and finally a splash of cheap brandy. Yeah, the finish is a bit of a let down, not the least because it brings out some unfortunate phenols, too. OK, this probably needs to be dialed in a touch.

473mL can, pours jet black with a medium brown head — that's dark. Aroma is full of big roasted malt, plenty of hops, and some woody notes. Flavour is big and roasty, with dark roasted malt, wood, and plenty of hops to back. Fairly dry finish, showcasing that big roast character. Not the most complex but well-constructed and sturdy. Excellent.

473mL can, pours a hazy dark amber orange with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out toffee, dark dried fruits, and a touch of bourbon barrels. Flavour is rich and malty, with lots of bready malt, toasted caramel, and a touch of bourbon barrels to round things out. Clean, robust and well-structured. Excellent.

Dark amber, slight haze. Medium head. Chewy and somewhat cheesy aroma. Medium bitterness, some citrus, but a lot of oxidized hop here. Base malts are a touch sticky, but this is really a hop issue, not using the best and the brightest. That takes it from good 2008 DIPA to dodgy 1998 DIPA territory.

Rich aroma here. Lots of oak, and plenty of roast underneath all that. Black pour with great mocha head. Thick, creamy and oily consistency. Bitter finish with some boozy sweetness. Light caramel. Can.

473 ml can. Pours a dark mahogany with light head. Aromas of oak, raisins, dry toffee, and biscuity malts. Soft flavors of same with oak more intense in the finish. Quite nice.

473 ml can. Pours amber with moderate head. Aromas of quince, stoned fruit jelly, soft toasted malts and possibly some ground coffee. Flavors of jellied fruit, light earthy Belgian yeast, earthy coffee, and doughy malts. Nice when really cold, but not really much Belgian or barrel notes…

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Dark blond colour, hazy to cloudy. Mild aroma of paper and coffee. Good body, highly carbonated, maybe a hint of anise, otherwise no trace of Tripel, light liquorice and vegetables, some hot alcohol in the finish. Weird.

Poured from 473mL can. Hazed gold with small white head. Drip coffee underlies everything, not picking up any bourbon notes from the bean soaking, some mild Belgian tripel yeast, hint of booze. Just overall an average beer that’s gimmicky, but inoffensive.
