Description
Oxbow is a small farmhouse brewery located in rural Newcastle, Maine. The brewery is nestled in an enchanted forest amongst rolling farmlands and winding tidal rivers, of which the ebb and flow provide a constant reminder that the coast is near.
The name Oxbow is inspired by the bends in these rivers, the Dyer in particular, which features stunning horseshoe-shaped oxbows where the river covers tremendous ground to travel what could otherwise be a very short linear distance. We employ a similar approach when crafting our beers, taking months or years to create a beverage that is commonly produced in a matter of days.

Hazy, iced tea, murky pour at Sovereign. Lemon honey nose, earth, old ale. Obvious lemon black tea, tannic English cider, sweet n sour floral, backdrop of watermelon & lemon sorbet. Best thing I've had all night.

Canned 11/19/24, drunk 1/9/25.
Clear blonde-golden. Large, white head settles slowly to cover.
Lovely aged character shows nothing aggressive or tacky here. Just a speck of light clove with Oxbow's signature heavily basement-esque and mineralesque yeast. A bit of white pepper and lots of rich, honey-like malt. Doesn't smell too light, despite its size.
Softly malty but with tight carbonation. Excellent hopping providing balancing bitterness but still tastefully-done. Bit of bread and a bit of lime on the finish, as Ernest always complained about. I taste it, but it doesn't detract for me. Clean with lots of mineral, lots of malt and great texture and intensity of flavor for its size.

16 oz can from Half Time, 12/22/24. Dark brown color with a medium brown head. Roast, grains, light spice. Smooth, dark malt forward. Easy drinking, fairly dry / bitter. Good stuff.

On tap at Augurs Well, pours a deep dark red with a small beige head. Aroma has oak, wild bugs, and dry grape juice. Flavour is full of dry oak, wild bugginess, and gentle grape skins. Dry, musty, and lightly vinous. A bit muffled but pretty well-constructed. Solid.

On tap at Proletariat, pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma has bright, dry apricots, wild bugs, hay, and some light acidity. Flavour is dry and gently acidic, with tons of juicy, dry apricot, hay, and finishing citrusy. Nice use of the apricot without being too acidic. Excellent.

Single from Churchkey. Pint glass at home. Hazy honey gold pour. Strong, off-white, lumpy head. Herbal, spiced, floral, very Wit-like nose. Bittersweet herbal, grape ale, wax, chewy grain, lingering clove. Fuzzy, waxy, yeasty texture, a bit of heat. Just a little too heavy. Good-ish.
