Description
Founded in 1988, Brasserie Fantôme has gained international attention and a cult following among lovers of craft beers. Owned and run by Dany Prignon, Fantôme is known for its unique variations on the Saison style of farmhouse ale, often involving the use of herbs, spices or fruit juice. Within the craft beer community, Fantome saisons are considered highly desirable and have developed a significant audience in the United States and United Kingdom. Ironically, while their complex, earthy, and herbal flavors have caused them to be sought out by connoisseurs outside of Belgium, Fantôme's products are difficult to find and not well known in the country of their origin.

Kind of an odd Buddha's Hand flavor. Aroma is quite odd as well, never got to be that desirable or enjoyable. Not my favorite. At least it wasn't a gusher.

I could've sworn I've had this before, but maybe not. Delicious! Wonderful vine fruits, smooth 'tome spices, dry and vivacious. Musty in a bright, slightly tangy way.

Towering, very fine & dense, just off-white head, utterly stable over very lively carbonated ochre-golden beer. Very spicy nose, explosive garden herbs and weeds aromas, sparandrap. Iron in the head. Weird spices & herbs (the Bergamotte?), completely overpowering, punch-in-the-face concoction. Bit nauseating sweetness. In the finish kafir lime - the only citrus. Quite slick, oily feel, medium to well bodied, overcarbonated. Aye. After some remarkable better tries, here's old-style Dany again at his hit-and-miss... Txs to Stef!

Bottle. Color: Hazy orangish golden, frothy white head. Aroma: Spicy, fruity lime and citrus fruit notes. Taste: Malty with a nice hoppy backbone, grassy, floral, subtle fruity lime notes, spicy, hints of pepper. Long lasting finish. Moderate sweet , starting light bitterness going towards over moderate at the finish. Nice complexity for a Saison. Another nice Fantôme.

Funky, dry, bitter, close to their standard saison but the bergamot adds a more herbal edge. I don't taste any black pear, but there is a general fruitiness underneath.
