Description

'Quadrupel blond' (which is as contradictory to me as 'triple brune') by De Leite, infused with rum; thanks to tderoeck for sharing. Eggshell-white, moussey, regularly shaped, shred-lacing head over an initially clear 'old' golden beer, misty and more peachy with sediment. Aroma of halfripe banana, white bread dough, apricot, touch white rum but very subtle, honey, old potatoes, clove, turnip, pear. Some dryish 'green' fruitiness in the onset, unripe peach and unripe banana, touch pear, medium carbonated with smooth, slick mouthfeel; cereally and white-bready malt core with an unripe fruit effect lingering on, some mild grassy hops in the finish alongside a 'coconutty' white rum effect, turning a tad astringent in the very end. Feels rather crude and boozy - and it being blonde and not brown, not even amber, makes it qualify as a tripel for me: screw brewer's intent (the term 'quadrupel' being relatively young in beer history and first used for La Trappe Quadrupel, which is not the same as La Trappe Tripel, then extended to the 'massive ales' of Belgium and that is how beer style names become solified by usage over the years - but I could go on about this for hours). Not my cup of tea, to be honest, I expected more from De Leite, but I think liquor-infused beers (usually a cheap and lazy alternative to barrel ageing) are just not my thing in general.

opalescent amber colour, moderate sized creamy, ecru head, aroma of dried sour cherry, or rather sour cherry juice, woody, vanilla, some citric, marzipan and bretty, as well as tannin-like notes; taste is quite the same with some rum-like alcoholic notes; good one, though it's quite far from a typical tripel
