Description
Big Drop Brewing Co. is a new craft beer company dedicated to making great beer with an ABV of no more than 0.5%.

Big Drop was launched in October 2016 by the-then City lawyer Rob Fink, along with his school-friend/band-mate, designer and entrepreneur, James Kindred. Along with renowned experimental brewer, Johnny Clayton (formerly of Wild Beer Co), they’ve perfected techniques to make alcohol-free craft beer without the need for artificial removal of alcohol.

The 2018 contract with a leading supermarket chain will require Big Drop, which moved production from a small-batch brewer in Bermondsey to Sussex-based own-label specialist Hepworth, to scale up production from 10,000 litres per month to some 40,000 litres.

Production moved to Black Sheep Brewery after a deal was agreed with Keystone Brewing Group, announced December 2024.

0.33 l bottle from 'AH' (Roermond), best before February 2019. Clear, golden with a thin, fluffy, quickly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, slightly floral and a little fruity aroma of wort, grains, biscuits and some melon. Slightly sweet, moderately bitter, quite dry, moderately grassy and a bit fruity taste of grains, some straw, a touch of wort and traces of quince, followed by a short, moderately bitter, fairly dry and slightly grassy finish. Thin body, watery and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Drinkable, not that bad, not overly tasty though.

330ml bottle; BB 15th Dec 18. Poured into my huge 'Judas' glass at home on 27th Apr 18, the first beer of a 'random tasting session' with myself during a 'virtual bar' evening on the UK Forum. Body is a clear golden orange, plenty of carbonation bubbles clinging to the glass, white head that faded swiftly. Aroma had a malty lead, light citrus notes also. Taste was crisp and leaning towards lemons and lime in flavour, with a metallic twang and a dry finish/aftertaste. OK for an 0.5% ABV beer, but not really my sort of brew. Scored objectively and fairly.

330ml bottle. Clear, faint, orangey golden colour with average, frothy, osteoporosing, barely more than not lacing, white head. Citrusy and slightly piney, hoppy as well as weakly caramel malty aroma with a honey touch, hints of instant lemon tea. Snapple ice tea, peach flavoured ice tea. Taste is dry, somehow "neutral" caramel malty, minimally spicy, citrusy and minimally piney hoppy overtones, hints of lemon tea, ice tea again, but without any residual sweetness. Good and flawless try on a low alcohol beer; there's nothing to be called unpleasant, just an understandable absence of "kaboom!"

Bottle from local AH, BB 9-3-2019. Dark color, short frothy head. Aroma of earthy roast, milk chocolate and a bit of dark fruit. Slight potgrond, but not annoying. Quite roasty flavor, milk chocolate and cacao nibs. Soft carbonation, bit thin finish. It lacks a bit in body, but its quite a decent take on a NA stout actually.

Bottle at home. Clear golden with fizzy white head. Soft fruity hops, metallic weirdness, chalk, dry dusty grass, mineral water, plastic, basil, licking trains. No sweetness and medium bitter. Barely any bodied, drink like mineral water with an extra dry finish. Not good. It smells OK but it’s just not a pleasure to drink.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Albert Heijn Culemborg. Clear golden with a white head. Hoppy piny marihuana aroma. Really weird grainy burnt plastic taste. Strange and horrible.

Bottle from local supermarket. Color: Black, creme head. Taste: Very smooth, creamy. Roasted medium sweet malty, wort, bittery notes of cocoa, notes of lactose and brown sugar. Thin body, just below average carbonation. Pretty bitter palate at finish. Ok when you have to drink alcohol free, although I would prefer some of the better low-alcohol IPA's in that case.

330ml bottle from Gloucester Motorway Services (going North), poured into an old Schloss Brau Pils glass at home on 21st April 2018. Clean and clear light golden body, no aroma and no real taste, a little dry with a mini hop presence maybe. I should wear my glasses when buying beers, when will I learn?
