Description
Brasserie du Bocq was set up in 1858 by Martin Belot. The Brewery was incorporated into a limited company in 1949. Independent of any Belgian or foreign brewer, it still beholds its own family nature. Located in the heart of the Condroz, wonderful tourist region, this dynamic company still uses the traditional manufacturing process of top-fermentation beers with secondary fermentation in the bottle.
In 1983, Brasserie du Bocq abandons the exploitation of Central Brasserie Marbaix -La-Tour, to bring all the beer production back to Purnode where the production tools have been radically modernized on the basis of equity. Today in Purnode, although the Belot family has sold its assets to the Keersmaekers family who has been producing the Corsendonk at the Brasserie du Bocq for over 30 years, and even though the brewery has far exceeded its regional framework, nothing has changed and the values of the company remain intact.

[2000 brew, 5.6% ABV] Amber ale. Very nice hop aroma, lightly spicy, fruity. Lovely flavour, balanced in sweetness and bitterness, with prevalence of hop in the final; dry. Long aromatic palate. The basic ingredients, malt and hop, but brewed with real Art.

big, stable head - beats me why they designed their glas like that - you wait ages for the foam to recede. Beautiful golden color, a bit flowery aroma, but a very anonymous taste.

Re-rate from cellared bottle, best before 15.10.02 Citrus, caramel, bubblegum and cheap brandy nose. Cloudy dark amber, no head. Sweet peach flavors, caramel body, light peach aftertaste. lightbodied, but pleasant. This beer has really improved by waiting a bit, fresh Blanche de Noel is almost completely indistinguishable from regular Blanche de Namur.

Rerate from aged bottle - 1992 Lactic green cheese and sweet spicy aroma. Cloudy amber, low head. Complex caramel and sugar sirup flavor, chocolate, spices and a tad green moss on top. Oily mouthfeel.

I sampled this at 15 years old at Akkurat in Stockholm (worth the airfare, by the way). The nose was predictably alcoholic, and the palate was full of chewy malt flavours. Probably a little old for its own good, but developed some good complexity nonetheless.
