Description
Cotleigh Brewery began life in Devon in 1979, in the old stable block of Cotleigh Farmhouse at Washfield near Tiverton. Immediate success meant that in 1980 the brewery moved to the historic brewing town of Wiveliscombe in Somerset. Its original owner Ted Bishop was succeeded in the early 80's by John and Jenny Aries, who built upon the brewery's success. The brewery moved in 1985 to the current location in order to fulfil ever-increasing demand. Currently is Stephen Heptinstall the sole owner of the Brewery.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Knowing the brewery had ceased to be I thought it good to try one of their beers before its too late. Pours a clear amber with small off white head, some retention Aroma is very malty with toffee and raisin, light floral hop. Taste again very malty but clean and light although with a slight chewiness. Toffee, light fruity raisin tang, moderate zesty bitterness with some spice notes. Fairly straightforward but pleasant. And there goes my review for the one and only Cotleigh beer I will ever consume!

Hand pulled pint (now brewed by Nuttycombe) on 14th December 2024, Crown Inn, Oakengates. Light brown body, off white crust, clean and clear look. Pleasant enough without exciting your taste buds too greatly, subtle bitterness over a weak malty base.
