Cask at the Draymans Son, Ely. Very dark brown, opaque, fairly flat with some tan head. Liquorice and hazelnut coffee smell. Fairly mild but enticing. Sweet nutty taste, with more liquorice in the aftertaste. Full body although could do with a bit more carbonation. Really enjoyed this.

Gravity cask at the Liberty Belle, Ely. Black with a medium-sized cream-coloured head. Coffee and cream, bit of walnut whip on the aroma. Sweet and almost slightly fruity initial taste, fading to a pronounced chalky bitter in the finish. Slightly thinner body than I’d have liked, but otherwise a gorgeous experience.

12th June 2015: bottle conditioned 500ml into an Abbot Ale glass tankard at home with a roast chicken diner. Slight haze to the light golden body, even though I thought I had left any sediment in the bottle. On top a snow white head that lasted a while and gave off a bit of lacing. Hop nose with mild floral esters if you sniff hard enough. The taste is a happy blend with the hops just about winning the battle for power. suited my meal: mini bitterness from the hops but overall a well balanced, delicately flavoured blonde. Better than OK, but below great, subtle rather than ’in your face’.

Cask at the Griffin Hotel, Attleborough. Slightly hazy golden brown. Flat as the proverbial pancake. Yeasty, bready, sour scent. Taste is a balanced but uninspiring bittersweet. Short finish. Uninteresting.

Bottle from Beers of Europe
Black, lots of ruby light through at edges of glass, moderate beige head quickly dissipates to nothing.
Aroma - Roasted malts, soft charcoal, slightly smoky, dark fruity malts, more fruity with the drinking, slight sour note
Taste - Roasted malt more mellow than the nose, dark sweet malts, soft fairly sweet dark malts, dark toffee, good flavour but spoiled by a slightly sour note probably related to the condition
Palate - Flat as a pancake, medium light body, fairly sweet, slight sourness, light bitter. Finish as main flavour with dark fruits, and dark fruity chocolate
Overall - Shame this is spoiled by poor condition and it’s a touch sour. Did have some good flavours in there. I’m sure this is much better with a good bottle or on cask.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - golden with a thin creamy head. Steady bubbles. Nose - gentle lemon sherbet. Taste - hay and lemon sherbet. Palate - light to medium bodied with an overbearing yeasty edge that dominates eventually. Overall - another yeast issue going on here.
