Tulip at the brewery - black pour, soapy tan lace - nose of woody hops and oak - flavor is spicy, woody hops, roast, oak, chocolate, vanilla - spicy finish, lending a bitterness that seems much higher than the listed 44 ibu - tasty stuff, perhaps a little sweet.

Tap at the brewery - black it’s a bright white head - nose of cocoa, some berry-ish acidity, heavy toasted coconut - medium body - very sweet, but with a sharp acidity through the middle to cut it, perhaps getting too strong in the finish - strong coconut throughout, some vanilla and chocolate - a little out of balance, but tasty.

I was going to enter this as a double IPA, but the smoke is so intense, I went the other way - a copious amount of cherrywood smoked malt makes it intensely smoky in nose and aroma - moderate sweetness - strong bitterness which actually compliments the earthy, woody smokiness to it - strong finishing bitterness, but a moderate sweetness and campfire smoke linger on the tongue.

Tulip at the brewery - Turbid purple - this stuff is crazy heavy on the boysenberry in nose and aroma - flavor is all boysenberry and raspberry jam up front - some wheat malt character follows, as well as slight acidity to cut the sweetness, followed by some alcohol heat - it’s actually decent, as the fruit flavor is earthy and natural - decent.

Tulip at the brewery - dark ruby pour - soapy lace - the malt is showcased fairly well here, with some rich toffee, but also drier notes of peat, whiskey, mushroom/earth - the light addition of salt works well to cut the sweetness - some notes of plum - finishes with whiskey, but very well-masked alcohol.

Sample at Kurtkeller 022: Pumpkin-tastic 03 on 10/31/2015. Inky black color with a medium foamy tan head that diminishes gradually. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, bourbon and coffee. Medium to full body with flavors of oaky bourbon, chocolate malt and roasted coffee. The finish is oaky with a bourbon-infused coffee aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Pint at the brewery - turbid straw color - I like this better than the cal ale edition - the wild yeast dries it out a little more and adds a nice pineapple/tropical character to the already citric and herbal hop flavors - A light tartness and mild funkiness to the finish, followed by lingering spiciness - tasty.

This sour cherry ale has a reddish-amber colour. Sweet cherry up front, light plasticy stuff, abundant alcoholic finish. Sort of incongruent in that way.

Bright copper colour. Aroma of tinned jalapeos. Tastes vegetal, vinegary, with light tinned jalapeo heat and a vague pale malt signature. Ok.

Dark brown with a thick head. Aroma has a fair bit of the pink peppercorn and a toasty, lightly chocolatey note. Really nice balance between the toasty schwarz character and the peppercorns. I like the peppery, fruity nuance they impart.
