Description
Andreas Gänstaller used to hire the name, building and installation of Beck-Bräu in Trabelsdorf. Since December 2010 he has brewed in Schnaid under his own name. Beers and recipes taken to the new brewery are moved here. Since then his beer sometimes appears under the Drei Kronen name from 2010-2013 when Gänstaller Bräu had the Zoiglstube in Strassgeich as a tap.

Bottle. Maybe it’s me but smoked beers taste the same to me. Now, there’s a little difference but much. I still like them though.

Bottle. Dark amber with a small head. Taste and aroma was like smoked dried fruit. Very tasty.

Bottle. Cloudy, gold in Color with a small quickly disappearing head. Aroma is smoky grains. Taste is actually really nice. Smoked flavour up front, smoked and well balance in the middle with hints of smoke and grapefruit in the finish.

Tap at Belvarosi sorfesztival. Pours a semi opaque golden with white head. Nose is rich malty, there’s bread, light hay, and even some biscuity notes. Taste is also deep and layered grainy, moderately sweet yet still refreshing. Light to medium but rich body, soft to average carbonation.

Bottle at home. Pours semi opaque orangeish golden with a white head. Nose is intense zesty, citric and somewhat resinous hops with a hint of malts. Taste is also heavy on the hops and bitterness, showing just a hint of maltyness and is otherwise packed with grassy, zesty, resinous and grapefruity hop character and a hefty amount of bitterness. Closes with a dry finish, has a light body and average carbo. Decent, but if the bitterness would be tuned down a bit it’d be even better.

Can at home in Alkmaar, courtesy of someone from the German crew, but unfortunately I totally forgot who. Pours black as the night. Nose is roasty notes, lots of molasses, dark chocolate. Taste is sweet, slightly boozy but not overly so, it’s got lots of dark chocolate and molasses, also hints of dried fruits and nougat, light roasty notes. Closes with a dry, roasty-chocolatey finish, it’s got a full, silky body and soft carbonation. Straightforward and not too complex maybe, but I dig this a lot nevertheless.

Can at home. Semi clear golden pour with a thick, dense head. Nose is pale malts, bread, hay, light citric notes, a herbal touch. Taste is nicely balanced between bitter and sweet, opening with the latter and showing bready malts, hay and some honey and then the finish is moderately bitter, showcasing grassy and herbal notes. Light bodied but flavourful, with an average to high carbonation.

Can at home. Pours chestnut colour with a beige head. Nose is immense smoked malts, ham and cheese, lovely. Taste is sweetish malty, caramel and bready notes come through from beneath the smoke. Closes with a caramely, smoky, slightly metallic finish, has a medium body and soft carbonation. Not particularly complex or layered but it’s very much my cup of tea.
