Draught at Bukowski’s Inman, 3/4/16.
Softly hazy, copper-straw with a rapidly dissipating white head.
Not a lot going on in the nose. Just a bare brush of lactic acid and mineral water, with light salt and bits of floral character. Nectarine and lemon rind with warming. No alcohol or flaws.
Soft floral notes combine with strong honey flavors and quite a bit of sweetness, at least for a gose. It’s not a sweet beer, by any means, but it’s much, much less tart than most goses. Salt and citrus characteristics are quite enjoyable and make up, somewhat, for the lack of tartness, but the carbonation is very low and not overly tight. It causes the honey to really show strongly. No alcohol or flaws. Maybe pass on adding honey to a gose....

Tap at One Mile House, NYC: pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is chocolate and roasty malts and flowers and a certain kind of coffee. Taste is nice and malty and floral. Body is light and refreshing. Pretty nice.

Draught at EBF, 2/5/16.
Thoroughly hazy, tangerine-colored body is topped by a medium-sized white head that shows moderate to moderately-low retention.
Tart acids mix with sweet, fruity mango, light lime and an interesting black pepper-meets-mint element that I’m not sure the origin of. A fairly substantial maltiness, at least for the style, deepens things adding honey and lightly sweet dough. Juicy citrus emanates from the nelson sauvin hops, which I guess must be where the peppery/herbal character is coming from, as well. No alcohol or flaw.
Malty, or more correctly, juicy up front, with lactic acid kicking things off as citrus and dry mango notes are added. Acids continue to keep things sour and all the while balance the malt. Floral and herbal notes abound on the end, as biscuity and somewhat salty flavors are added to the mix. A bit muddled/unfocused, but the plethora of flavors here are all enjoyable. Low to moderate carbonation, mostly tight.

Hard to find much info about this beer. Kent Falls either talks a lot about their beers or you can barely find any info whatsoever on them. Unfortunately this is the latter. I assume (maybe incorrectly) that this is the base beer to the Second Nature fruited sour series. Anyhow, it pours a light golden-blonde, somewhat hazy, with a rapidly disappearing white head.
I do get the light vegetal notes and some strong oak character. Heavily woody and quite funky, though I’m not sure my biggest problem is with the particular flavor notes (didn’t find a lot of the flaws others comment on here). What was a little disappointing was the lack of much flavor at all. As well, it’s quite thin and overly dry/husky. Tart brett acids, light aceto-lactic character and musty funk, heavily oily woodiness and vanilla character all make for a strange experience. Possibly an old batch that they let sit or that wasn’t deemed good enough for Second Nature? Whatever the case, it does seem tired and old and the beer itself doesn’t seem nearly big enough to hold all of this wood and funk.

The beer is a light yellow. Large white head. Excellent retention. Hazy liquid. The bottle gushed a bit upon opening. The aroma has a nice mix of farmhouse and hop flavors. Light citric hoppiness, green pepper, lemongrass and tangerines with a little grass and pine. Fairly spicy. It pretty much takes over and I don’t really love Equinox against this light saison background. There’s a very light, simple grain sweetness, fresh and nice. Mild funk, moderately earthy. Taste is moderately dry with light to medium bitterness. Some pepper and lemongrass hoppiness. A bit of dust and earth. Very light and delicate outside of the hoppy flavor, which sorta clashes. Light on the palate. A touch of hop oiliness. Some astringency in the finish. Not really bad but the hop choice isn’t for me.

Bottle shared at the February MDF tasting. Thanks Shaun! Dark brown, thin fizzy tan head, good retention. Aroma of roasted malts, tobacco and yeast. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, dark fruits, tobacco, vanilla. Thin bodied.
