Description
Since 1975, Boon Brewery has been owned and run by Frank Boon, one of the pioneers of the authentic lambic and gueuze revival. But the first signs of the brewery date back to 1680, as a farm-brewery and distillery in the village of Lembeek. In 1860 Louis Paul bought the brewery to brew only lambic and faro. From 1875, he began bottling gueuze lambic. In 1898, Pierre Troch bought the brewery. But after the economic crisis of 1927, it came into the hands of Joseph De Vits. His son, Rene is renowned for the production of soft and fine gueuze lambic. As Rene De Vits had no children, he sold the brewery to Frank Boon.

Golden coloured and slightly hazy with rich head. Slightly fruity aroma. Balanced acidity, rather mellow, full bodied for a gueuze.

Voluptuous head. Deep cherry red, with orange hints. Complex aroma: oak, cherry, ammonia. Tart palate, but with sweetness at the back. Cherry notes, some vague nuttiness, spice and wood. Full, rounded body. Finishes sweetish, fruitier and nutty. Very rounded for a hardcore lambic, but also very clean (lack of funkiness), save for the phenols.

This is a weird one, this is. Sweet and sour, with orangey flavours........

My bottle poured rather flat. No head and rather little carbonation in the glass. It had a nice sour lambic and cherry flavor, but the stillness made it seem more winelike (in the vein of a cheap cherry wine) than a lambic. Crystal clear (unexpected) and ruby red.

Golden amber colour. Complex aroma - raspberry, sugar, leather. Sweetish palate - candy, raspberry, sugar. Lacks funkiness. OK as a dessert lambic but not in the league of the great ones.
