27th April 2010. Clear, very dark brown beer. Light dry palate. A little dark malt with a whisper of chocolate. Earthy. Some orange and plum fruit underneath. Dry finish.

Cask gravity at Reading BF 2010. Copper colour, bit musty really. Very good drinkable beer, but just an odd mustiness to it.

Cask, gravity at The White Horse, Hedgerley, 18th ’Coming of Age’ Beer Festival 29-05-10 Mid gold appearance with some filmy white lacing on top. A little ’cats piss’ on the nose. This has a buzzy tongue tingling hoppiness. There is a steady bitterness throughout. This will almost certainly be one of the better football themed beers for the world cup, it gets an extra mark for that!. Lovely beer. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 3.9

Cask (handpump) @ City Arms, 46-48 Kennedy Street, Manchester, Greater Manchester England M2 4BQ.Clear medium yellow orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, fully lasting, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, light hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20100425]

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 11/05/10. Near black in colour with a decent, off-white head. Some dark fruit, a touch of sweetness before a lingering roasty finish. A solid mild.

Cask, handpump at The Hop Pole, Aylesbury, Bucks 10-05-10 Classic mid-amber colour with a slim white head. Some sweetness initially but this is soon slapped down by a heavy bitterness. Citric and syrupy flavour’s combine but its the bitterness that is the real noticeable thing about this beer it simply hangs about for ages. Enjoyed this but a half was enough. I gave this a 3.7 when having it in the pub but having left the pub and thought about it in the drive home I realised as pleasant as it was I didn’t like it that much, so it got knocked down a couple of notches. Cask-conditioned at the Inn on the Green, Bristol 7/05/10. Golden coloured with a decent white head. Sweet, malty aroma with some summer fruits. Flavour was similar with some butterscotch and apricot, leading to a dryish finish. Good.

Cask at the Red Lion, Histon. Golden with a loose white head; farmyard aroma; and earthy flavour with a good malty body; then some herbal hops to finish. A spirited bitter.

Cask@The Rake, London. Standard golden looks with minimal head. Some citrus and hop in the nose but all a bit restrained and not leaping out as much as I’d hoped. Similar story in the flavour, I’m a big fan of cascade but they aren’t really prominent enough here sadly. Reasonable balance, bitterness ok. Perfectly drinkable, just lacking any sort of killer blow really.

500ml Bottle - Very dark brown with some red tinges and a tan head. Roasted malt aroma with coffee and plain chocolate. Roasted taste with notes of coffee, chocolate and liquorice.
